- pull with some effort to the side.

After this, it is necessary to unscrew the four bolts with which the air filter is attached to the cover.The indicated operation is preferably performed with a Phillips screwdriver. But it does not matter if it is not at your fingertips. On most Kalin, the tightening of the voiced bolts is not strong, which means that you can unscrew them with a simple flat screwdriver.
After dismantling the bolts, boldly open the cover, pulling it out with little effort. Before us is an old filter that we want to replace. We take out the element that has worked out its life, carefully wipe the vacant space with a rag, and then use the vacuum cleaner to completely get rid of fine dirt and dust. We take in our hands a new filter, orient it in such a way that it is located with ribs in the direction of movement (that is, forward), and insert it into the housing.

At the next inspection, I found that one of the pillars of the air filter housing came off together with a small part of the housing. Deciding that it wasn’t, it’s good, he started to look in stores, unfortunately he wasn’t nearby, he had to order from a wholesale warehouse. We delivered the order the next day (Monday). And on Wednesday the snow just fell, and the need arose to “change shoes”. We drove into the garage in the evening, changing the wheels for winter. I decided at the same time and put a new filter housing. Unscrewing the top cover, disconnected it from the pipe so as not to interfere. And then he proceeded to dismantle the old building. Having unscrewed all the fixing bolts, I tried to pull it out, but it wasn’t there, it rests on the battery and does not exit. Twisting in different directions, the old casing finally came out. After examining the old building, it turned out that it was already glued at the fault point.
Then, using a large screwdriver, I had to remove the air intake pipe from the old building. Comparing the old case and the new one, it turned out that on the new one there is no guide for fixing the wiring harness. Having grinded the rivets on the old casing, the guide was dismantled. Then, marking the place of attachment and drilling holes, attached the guide to the new casing with screws. Then he proceeded to install on the car and final assembly.
As written in the official instructions for operation and maintenance of Lada Kalina, the air filter must be replaced at least after 30,000 km. Of course, these are only AvtoVAZ recommendations, and they should not be treated as a clear rule. Although, if the car is constantly operated in the city, then most likely this period is completely justified. But if your car runs most of the mileage in the countryside, it is better not to wait 30 thousand km., But to change the filter no later than 15 000 km. I would like to describe the whole procedure in more detail below. For experienced owners, this instruction is useless, but a beginner will be quite useful.
The procedure for replacing the viburnum air filter
So, for starters, open the Kalina's hood and the first thing to do is disconnect the plug from the mass air flow sensor so that it does not interfere in the future. It is fastened with a latch, which must be pushed upwards from the bottom and pulled with an effort to the side.
He should get out without any problems. We take these wires to the side. They will no longer interfere with us, but it’s better to hook them on something, fix it somehow.
Now you can go to the next step. Unscrew all 4 bolts that secure the air filter cover. It is best to use a thick Phillips screwdriver, but from personal experience I was convinced that the bolts are not tightened very well and a regular screwdriver is quite suitable, even a flat one.
After everything is unscrewed, it is enough with a little effort to pull the lid to open it. We can say that everything is ready. We take out the old air filter with our hands, just pulling it, wipe it thoroughly so that there is no dust left inside and change it to a new one.
Do not forget to place the element with the ribs forward, in the direction of movement, and carefully insert the sealing gum on the filter housing itself. We put the cover in place, tighten all the screws, and insert the same wire from the air sensor in its place. That's all. Do not forget that the replacement must be done at least 30 thousand km in urban conditions, and preferably no more than 15 thousand km when operating in rural areas. Then dust and various debris will not get into the injector and the Lada Kalina injection system will work for a long time and without fail.
