Often, the process of leveling a character in MMOs is associated with the same type of genocide of crowds of mobs. Today I want to talk about how World of Warcraft is different.

It should be noted that this is one of the first quest chains added to the game, since the initial quest has an ID of only 65. It tells the story of Edwin vanCleef.

Arriving in Sentinel Hill, the hero learns that a gang of scoundrels is operating in the Westfall, calling itself the Defias Brotherhood, which instills terror and panic in the locals, forcing honest people to leave the Westfall. People's Militia leader Grian Stoutmantle wants to know who the leader of the gang is and where they are hiding. To do this, he invites us to infiltrate this bandit gang. In the Village in the Lakeland, a certain Willy the Black lives, who owes something to Grian. The hero goes to Lakeland to find out from Willy what information he will get.

Even though it may cost Willie his life, he admits he owes a debt to Stonymane and agrees to tell us something. The Defias bandits are up to something big. The last thing Willie heard was that they were working in concert with all sorts of gnolls, kobolds, and even goblins. Willy passes a hastily scribbled note to Grian, in which he lays out everything he knows about this topic.

It says that it was no small audacity of Stoneheart to send an outsider to discuss Defias affairs, and while Stoneheart had once saved Willie's life, he now put her in serious danger. The Defias Brotherhood is stronger than we think. Every mine from Westfall to Elwynn Forest is under their control. Kobolds and gnolls do all the dirty work for them. They also have goblin-created metal monsters that roam the fields of Westfall and strike terror into the locals.


They operate a vast underground system, much larger than Stonemane imagines, from Booty Bay to Stormwind Keep. Stoutmantle is a brave paladin, but a fool if he thinks he can defeat them. They are developing weapons of mass destruction. “In general, if the Stonemasons know anything, it is how to build large-scale structures. I hope you didn't think I was talking about pumpkin farms and vineyards? I repaid your favor. Now leave me!"

Upon reading the note, Stoneheart became angry, saying that he would have been better off leaving the bastard to rot when he had the chance. However, this information is critical. I wonder what Willie meant when he mentioned the Stonemasons. Spoke or talked? Can Defias Rogues be related to Stonemasons? Only one person needs to know for sure: Matthias Shaw, head of SI:7. The hero is invited to show him this note and see if he can shed light on this mystery.

After reviewing the note, Matthias Shaw says the matter may be more complex than Stoneheart believes. Matthias tells us that the Stonemasons Guild was led by a man named Edwin vanCleef. It was he who was engaged in the restoration of Stormwind after the devastation of its orcs during the First War. Perhaps VanCleef and his men were unhappy with the way they were treated by the king when the restoration of the city was completed. This could explain a couple of things.


Matthias Shaw


Matthias sends a document to Westfall, in which everything is described in more detail. From the documents we learn that the Brotherhood of Stonemasons, headed by Edwin van Cleef, consisted of the best builders among people. Stonemasons helped rebuild Stormwind City, which had been razed to the ground by orcs during the First War. van Cleef and his comrades were consummate architects. Their taste and flair is reflected in the grandeur of the Cathedral of Light and Stormwind Keep. However, the nobles of Stormwind incurred huge debts as they expanded the kingdom's military presence in Elwynn Forest and Stranglethorn Vale.

Huge debts devastated the treasury, and van Cleef and his comrades did not receive the promised money. Having spent several years building a great city, the Stonemasons were left with nothing, forgotten by the corrupt officials of the capital. Having known Edwin van Cleef all his life, Shaw finds it unpleasant to see him as his enemy. Edwin was a childhood friend of his and Matthias personally taught him the art of shadows, hoping that one day he would work with him. "If Van Cleef is at the head of the Defias, then may the Light have mercy on our souls!"

Gryan Stoutmantle is familiar with the name Edwin vanCleef. The thought that such a hardworking and talented person can turn into such a scoundrel upsets him. Gryan needs more proof before he believes this.

We need to find the location of the Defias Sanctuary. Grian's scout reports that a Defias postman has been seen on the road between Moonbrook, the Gold Coast Mining, and the Yango Mine. Stonemane wants the hero to capture him, or, in case of resistance, kill him and bring back what he finds. Of course, the postman resists, and we find on his corpse an encrypted letter from van Cleef:

Blackclaw--
The sea is waiting for us. We need resources from the north. Carry everything: rails, buckets. We need metal. A shipment is expected to arrive from the IB, but the delivery is delayed. Do your best, Blackclaw! This time, send supplies directly to the barn. Time is running out.

This letter becomes direct evidence that van Cleef is guilty. Now it remains to find out where the gang is hiding. In our absence, the People's Militia caught a thief who tried to steal the Salden wagon. He promised to lead us to their hideout in exchange for his life. The hero needs to protect the traitor on the way to the shelter.

Surprised that such a weakling as our hero will be able to protect him, the thief goes to show the entrance to the Dead Mines. Bandits from the Brotherhood are now hunting for his head, and when they see the thief with the hero, they try to kill them both. Having fulfilled his part of the bargain, the traitor flees into the undergrowth, and we return to Stonemane.

The last step remains - the murder of Edwin van Cleef. While Stonemane is saddened by the very fact that a man has been sentenced to death, it will be much better for all the people of Westfall if VanCleef rests forever. After long battles in the Dead Mines, the hero made his way to Van Cleef on the ship and defeated him.

Upon returning with a trophy to Stoutmantle, he praises our outstanding courage. The People's Militia thanks the hero for his service to the people of Westfall. Van Cleef's death marks the beginning of the end for the Defias. Gryan Stoutmantle hopes that peace will return to these lands soon.

Redemption


This quest chain tells the story of Tirion and Taelan Fordring.

After the hero exterminates carrion-eating larvae, plague dogs and bats on behalf of Tyrion, Tyrion offers to listen to the story. First, he apologizes for not being completely honest with us about his person. He needed to make sure that we could be trusted, since not many people would unselfishly help the old hermit. Tyrion's son, Taelan, was only a child when Tyrion was convicted of treason and exiled from the Alliance into exile.

Tyrion decided to settle on a small farm near the Thondroril River to watch over his son and in some way vouch that Taelan would grow up to be an honest man. As Tyrion had hoped, Taelan took his place as ruler of the fortress of Mardenhold in Hearthglen, but, in a cruel twist of fate, joined the ranks of the Scarlet Crusade. Now he is their High Lord. Tyrion carries us to believe, Telan - good man, he just needs guidance, he must remember what it is like to be - noble and honest. Tyrion believes that deep down, Telan understands that he is doing wrong, and asks for help.

To help Telan return to the right path, we must find something that will remind him of the past. One such item is a toy that Tyrion gave him for his seventh birthday. Taelan treasured this little warhammer, a scaled-down version of Tyrion's weapon. When Tyrion was cast out for treason, Telan's mother told her son that he was dead. Taelan was taken to Tyrion's empty tomb in the Crypt, and there he buried his hammer, along with all the memories of his father. When we bring the hammer to Tyrion, he barely holds back his tears.


Tirion Fordring


Tyrion goes on to say that when Uther died, the Order of the Silver Hand lost its morale. Taelan held out to the last, but as he retreated to the devastated village of Northvale, he made his final decision. Did any of the order survive, he thought, and what difference does it make? With that thought, Taelan threw down the banner of the Silver Hand and renounced all that was once dear to him. His honor remained on the blood-stained ground of the Northvale. Tyrion asks to find this symbol of lost honor.

Afterwards, Tyrion remembers how they often went to Caer Darrow when Taelan was young. The last time an artist named Renfri depicted their entire family on the beach. This is Tyrion's best memory of Telan and Karandra. It was then that, standing next to his wife and holding his son in his arms, he felt a deep connection with his own family, which he was not allowed to feel again.

Going in search of a painting in Caer Darrow, the hero meets the ghost of the artist Renfri there. She says that many spirits are cursed to experience their last happy memory on this island before they meet their tragic end. Renfri is also cursed, but not like everyone else - she is one of the few who remembers everything. Perhaps this picture we ask her is the reason why she dwells in these ruins. Perhaps what she tells us will set her spirit free. On the wall of her workshop, in the barracks of the order, a picture hung for many years. After Tyrion's trial, Renfri knew she couldn't keep her in the public eye.

She hid it so that no one would find it: in Stratholme, in a place that is now called the Scarlet Bastion, there is a picture with two moons. If you remove the top layer of paint, you can see the "Symbol of family love." At the sight of the painting, Tyrion almost collapses and begins to sob furiously.

The last step on the path to redemption remains - to take everything collected to Telan. Unfortunately, Taelan and his Scarlet crusaders will attack the hero on sight. There is only one way to deliver a message, and that is to assume the guise of an enemy. To the south of here, near Uther's tomb, is Tyrion's good old friend Miranda, who should help us with this. She was Tyrion's most trusted advisor during his tenure as Lord of Mardenholde.

She openly disagreed with the Silver Hand's verdict and was exiled for her insolence. Miranda reveals that she is an illusionist, and can create an illusion for a limited time, thanks to which the hero will be able to get into Hearthglen.


Posing as reinforcements from Tyr's Hand, the hero gives Tyrion's gift to Taelan. Telan can't believe it, drops to one knee and begins to breathe heavily. The fury that has built up over the years is about to be released on this city. How long had he been a puppet of the High Knight. And what was the use of fighting the Scarlet Crusade? Dozens of years have passed since the imaginary death of his father, but he lived only memories of him.

Telan dreamed that he and his father were together again. Tyrion stands by, watching proudly as Taelan is accepted into the order. They fight side by side with the Scourge, bringing glory to the Alliance and Lordaeron. Telan no longer wants to live in a dream and asks to be taken to his father. Taelan will lead us through Hearthglen to the edge of the forest, from where we will lead him to Tyrion. He begins to kill every Scarlet soldier he meets on his way out of the city and asks us to take off our disguises so as not to get under the sword when the rage takes over.


Telan Fordring


As Taelan and the hero drew level with the Scarlet Watchtower on the road to Hearthglen, High Inquisitor Isillien emerged from it. He said that Telan would not reach the edge of the forest. Taelan disappointed him, Isillien had grandiose plans for him. But alas, it was only a matter of time before the filthy bloodline showed itself. An apple from an apple tree. Taelan is just as weak-willed as Tyrion, if not more so. Isillien hopes that his killers have finally succeeded in ending his miserable life.

Isillien is tasked by the High Knight to kill Taelan and his newfound friends, but he does so out of pleasure, not out of duty or duty. Isillien summons his guards by saying "Now is the end, Fordring", and the fight begins. At one point, the High Inquisitor screams "Enough!" and strong spell kills Telan, after which he laughs. “Did you really believe that you could beat me? Your friends will be joining you soon, Telan". At that moment, Tirion Fordring appears.

Tyrion: "What have you done, Isillien? Once you fought with honor for the good of our people… and now… you killed my boy…”.

Tyrion easily overcomes High Inquisitor, while the player deals with the remnants of the Scarlet Elite Guard. Then Tyrion goes to his son and falls on one knee. "Look what they did to my boy." Tyrion holds Taelan's limp body and weeps softly.

“For far too long I have sat idly by, trapped in this fog, lamenting what could have been… what should have been. Your death will not be in vain, Telan. A new Order was born today. An order that will dedicate itself to fighting the evil that poisons this world. With an evil that can't hide behind politics and pleasantries. I promise it. »

After that, Tyrion tells the hero that the death of his son at the hands of these monsters will not pass without a trace. The Order is reborn. Now Tyrion will take the place of the High Lord of the new Order of the Silver Hand. Maybe in better times we will meet again and remember the days long gone, the battles we fought together, the dreams that have been redeemed.

Dragonfire Amulet


This quest chain opened the Onyxia's Lair raid.

It all starts with the fact that the hero arrives at Morgan's Watch in the Burning Steppes. Helendis Riverhead talks about the hectic life in this place. Before the Big Bang, it was all part of the Redridge Mountains. Morgana's Watch is struggling to survive the pressure from the Black Flight, and Helendis is asking us to help push back the black dragons by killing as many of them as possible.

Helendis goes on to say that at first they thought the Blackrock orcs were naturally so cruel. It turns out that things are different. Yes, they really are driven into battle by a thirst for blood and a love of battle, but they are led by black dragons. Riverhead asks that this message be taken to Magistrate Solomon.

After reading the message, Solomon says that it is not difficult to despair when he learns that your mortal enemies are just pawns of a much more terrible enemy. The lakeside will not survive the onslaught of Blackrock orcs and black dragons. If Lakeshire falls, Darkwood will be next, and then what? Goldshire? Stormwind itself? We need to take this message to Stormwind immediately. If they don’t get help from the capital, then they won’t get it by any means, and everything is lost.

When the hero delivered the message to Highlord Bolvar Fordragan, he was surprised at the threat of the dragons. However, they cannot afford to send their already meager troops to help Lakeshire on the basis of guesswork. Bolvar will need proof that Solomon's claims are correct before he can take any action. Helendis River Cape


At the first meeting, Katrina Prestor glares at the hero. She believes we're aiming to lower Stormwind's global defenses by pandering to a paranoid magistrate and a camp of scum who are likely suffering from heatstroke.

To objections, Lady Prestor agrees that this is not our end in itself, the character is simply a typical "adventurer" who often becomes victims of circumstances; the subject of a political drama that tends to unfold between the civilian population and royalty. Lady Prestor advises us to strive for something else, for example, a new career. This world has enough heroes.

Bolvar is thoughtful for a while. He respects Lady Prestor's position, but decides to find a political way out of the dilemma that will assuage all our concerns. He intends to empower us as a representative to act on behalf of Stormwind and delivers to Solomon a decree with the seal of King Wrynn. The edict states that the bearer of this document has been given the official status of acting representative of Stormwind.


Bolvar Fordragon


Solomon can use us to find evidence of the Blackrock orcs being part of the Black Pack. In the event that such evidence is found, this representative will take it to Stormwind and Bolvar will prepare a decree to provide Lakeshire with sufficient military assistance.

Solomon, of course, is not happy that instead of an army they sent him only us. However, it could have been worse. It seems that the fate of Lakeland rests entirely on our shoulders. And Solomon blinks rapidly to hide the coming tears. Sighing, Solomon instructs the hero to return to the Burning Steppes. As a representative of Stormwind, the hero must report to Marshal Maxwell.

Upon receiving the news, Maxwell simply laughed. It seems that this is not the first such "representative". How many more soldiers must Morgana's Watch lose before Stormwind starts to stir. They had already amassed a wealth of intelligence regarding the Blackrock threat before they lost their commander, Marshal Reginald Windsor. All valuable information was gone with him. A dwarf named John Ragged was at Windsor when they were raided by the Blackrock Raid. Last time he has been seen in caves in the northern Burning Steppes.


Lady Katrina Prestor


John was found drunk. He reveals that Windsor was in a particularly bad mood that day, which is rare for him. Windsor kept saying that he "felt something". And he wasn't joking! They were in the heart of Blackrock Mountain when the filthy beasts attacked them. By "filthy animals" John, of course, means orcs. All they could hear was the groans and clanging of steel as the orcs pounced on Windsor's party.

Jon vs fifty orcs? He's not stupid. Daddy always told him, "Discredit is the best part of a cracker" or something, and John knew what that meant. In general, he somehow slipped into the shadows. It wasn't very good, sitting next to Windsor, watching him almost go insane. Well, he started twirling the old Ironbreaker around him and yelling like crazy at the orcs. Have we never heard of the Ironbreaker? The legendary orc-killing hammer? Yes, it was old Windsor's hammer.

He told John that Franklorn the Artificer himself made this hammer for Windsor's great-great-great-grandfather. The Ironbreaker was made from a single piece of Dark Iron. Windsor also said that the hammer had a twin, which Franklorn kept with him. He called him Iron Friend or something... So, what was John talking about? Oh yeah, orcs rushed at Windsor and Windsor...? Sorry, but Windsor wouldn't die from fifty orcs. As certain as the Telsamar blood sausage was the most delicious food the world had ever known, so stood Windsor: he was covered head to toe in orcish body parts, drenched in about eighteen layers of their blood, but he definitely alive... and very, very angry. Why do we keep asking how he died? Who said he died? John didn't say that. He went missing, that's all. Apparently, Windsor's party was in the middle of some big battle between the orcs and the Dark Iron dwarves. Orcs being dirty miserable dogs, which they are, have previously hidden all sorts of traps and other devilish tricks that we probably won't understand.

And dwarves don't get drunk! John is just a little sloppy. In general, John believes that Windsor is somewhere in Blackrock Depths. This is the City of the Dark Iron, for uneducated peoples like us. Why did John decide that Windsor is in the depths of Black Mountain?! Slow down, John is just getting there. So, Windsor is standing so proud and tall in all this blood and dangling guts when who showed up? Dark Iron Dwarves! Yes, the Dark Irons are a little more cunning than the Blackrock orcs. They came prepared. By "prepared" John means there were about three hundred of them. Did the Dark Iron kill Windsor and drag him to Blackrock Depths? Yeah, if John wasn't so good at it, he'd think we were one of those "educated" peoples.

They call them troggs. Windsor has no disagreements with the Dark Iron, after all. best friend his great-great-great-grandfather was a Dark Iron. This is probably the reason why this Dark Iron army didn't kill Windsor on the spot. We finally figured out the Iron Destroyer! Upon the hero's arrival at Morgan's Watch, Maxwell asks what made us so happy. So that pathetic coward, John, says that Windsor is alive? If Windsor did find Ironbreaker and get out of this labyrinth, the first thing he would do was go to Stormwind and break Bolvar between the eyes with a hammer, that vile snake. Windsor asks to leave him.

Returning to Maxwell with the bad news, he lowers his head in mourning and says that Windsor has apparently lost his mind. Unfortunately, the once proud and noble warrior has turned into a miserable lunatic. Maxwell believes that there are no more ways and this is the end.

However, while traveling through Black Mountain, the hero stumbles upon a crumpled note. It is possible that this find will interest Marshal Windsor. Maybe things aren't so bad, and hope is still alive. The sheet is rumpled and soiled, and the text is almost unreadable, but we still managed to make out a few phrases:

It becomes a glimmer of hope. Seeing the hero in the hands of a note, Windsor became interested in her and began to read. After a while, Windsor starts shaking the note excitedly. Do we understand what this means? Maybe not all is lost! As far as Windsor understood, two Dark Iron dwarves, General Wrathforge and the golem lord Argelmach, had taken over his information. However, Windsor has a suspicion that they will not give it up, even if we ask them very politely. Windsor hopes the hero is ready to fight.

Marshall Windsor seems very excited about the return of the documents. He snatches them from the hero's hands and insists on leaving the dungeon immediately and asks for help in escaping. It is necessary to pick up Marshall's things from the warehouse and also free his friends. After the successful completion of the operation, we agree with Windsor to meet at Maxwell's camp and consider the next stages of the plan there.
