Installation of a gate from a professional flooring. Do-it-yourself gate from a professional sheet. Gallery of fences made of corrugated board

A gate made of corrugated board is one of the most acceptable and affordable options for creating a reliable and durable structure. Self-installation of such a gate is not very laborious or expensive.

What to consider when choosing corrugated board for the manufacture of gates in the fence

In order to correctly and efficiently install any garden structures, you need to carefully consider the choice of building material. The device of a gate or door using a profiled sheet is a reliable way to obtain an attractive design with a long service life and the following indisputable advantages:

  • light weight;
  • affordable cost of most types of profile;
  • resistance to temperature changes;
  • speed, availability and ease of self-assembly;
  • high bending strength.

When choosing, one must also take into account such a main drawback as a weak level of sound insulation.

Profiled sheets produced under the brand RN-20 used in the manufacture of fences and are distinguished by the presence of a special groove for water flow. The width of a standard sheet is 110 cm. Profiled sheets brand NS-35 and NS-44 have a high level of strength due to the presence of additional stiffeners. Such material is characterized by a higher quality, which is reflected in the cost.

In the manufacture of profiled sheets, high-quality steel is used, which is covered with a thin polymer layer on both sides. Rust protection is due to the use of the galvanizing method. Thanks to the polymer coating, there is an improvement in protection from environmental influences, as well as an increase in sealing and sound insulation. High-quality material has low rates of collection of static electricity on all planes.

How to make a simple gate from corrugated board with your own hands

When choosing the shape and type of gate, it is necessary, first of all, to focus on the appearance and height of the fence or gate. As a rule, blind models with a rectangular or square shape are made on the basis of profiled flooring. However, in some cases it will be appropriate to make an arched or semicircular structure.

For manufacturing, you will need tools and equipment presented:

  • a welding machine for welding frame parts and welding elements, both to the gate and to the supporting pillars;
  • grinder, necessary for cutting pipes of the required length;
  • a grinder that cleans all the irregularities resulting from welding and is necessary for leveling rough surfaces;
  • metal shears or a grinder for cutting galvanized or polymer-coated profiled sheets;
  • screwdriver.

Among other things, you need to prepare a tape measure and a building level, as well as a cord and a marker or crayon. If there is a need to do without welding, then a standard bolted connection of parts or fastening with a corner is carried out.

How to calculate the width and other dimensions of the gate

At the stage of designing and creating the main sketch, it is necessary to determine the criteria and parameters presented by:

  • the optimal width of the gate. As a rule, experts in the field of fence construction recommend focusing on a minimum value of 90-100 cm. A narrower gate will be an obstacle, if necessary, to carry large items;
  • optimal height of the structure. This indicator should be determined depending on the total height of the fence. In accordance with the norms prescribed in SNiP, the maximum height is 220 cm;
  • the level of penetration of the supporting pillars. This parameter may vary depending on the type of soil, as well as the level of soil freezing in the region. However, on fairly firm soils, the standard depth is 70 cm, and on more unstable and lighter soils, this value should be increased.

The optimal thickness of the sheet material is 5 mm with a height in the range of 180-220 cm. The higher the wave, the more bending resistance the corrugated sheet has.

Installation of support legs

This is the most time-consuming work in the process of building a gate or fence. Support columns are most often made of shaped pipes with a section of 80x80 mm and a wall thickness of at least 3-4 mm. The depth of the pit for installation depends on the type of soil:

  • on stony soils - 70 cm;
  • on clay soils - about 1.2 m.

A layer of gravel is poured and compacted at the bottom of the pits, after which pipes are installed and verticality is checked by means of a level. After leveling, concreting is carried out. Hanging the gate or gate is carried out after about five days, after the concrete has gained sufficient strength. The upper part of the pillars must be closed with plugs, which will prevent moisture from entering and extend the life of the structure.

Support pillars made of stone or brick look more attractive. As a rule, laying is carried out in one and a half bricks, which makes it possible to obtain supports with dimensions of 39x39 cm on a foundation base with dimensions of 50x50 cm. Brickwork does not tolerate bending loads well, and to give additional strength before pouring concrete, pipes are installed, around which stone or brickwork is laid. Before the construction of brick supports, metal mortgages must be welded to the metal pipes, which are brought out of the brick or masonry.

Production and sheathing of the wicket frame from corrugated board

You can make a frame base yourself from a metal profile with dimensions of 60x30mm or 40x40mm. Among other things, you will need a metal profile for cross members, a standard anti-corrosion compound and paint for metal, as well as a tool for cutting metal. In accordance with a pre-prepared scheme, from a metal pipe, you need to cut blanks with edges at an angle of 45 o.

Previously, the metal must be cleaned of surface rust with a metal brush. Two transverse stiffening inserts must be installed along the height of the assembled frame. After measuring the diagonal of the frame and checking all corners, crossbars and clamps are mounted between the lower and upper jumpers. Clamps are located at a small distance from the welding point. After checking the parallelism of the sides, welding is carried out.

The frame is treated with a special anti-corrosion agent, after which a loop is welded using a continuous seam. Finishing material is fixed only after the frame is painted with paint for metal. The profiled sheet is attached to the frame by means of self-tapping screws. Standard fastening involves the location of fasteners with a step "through the wave".

Gate installation

To install the gate, not only traditional standard metal hinges, but also modern modern polymer curtains can be used. If metal poles are used as a support, then the curtains must be welded directly to them. When installing brick or stone racks, the hinges are most often fixed by welding to the installed metal profile pipe, which is fixed with anchors or dowels on the pole.

The finished gate can be hung on supports, after which the operation of the lock, if any, is checked. In order to prevent the installed structure from opening in two directions, a limiter in the form of a corner must be welded onto the opposite support. The slats also make it possible to cover the gaps located between the wicket posts and the finishing sheet.

Features of manufacturing a gate from a profiled sheet with a gate with your own hands

Gates with a gate made of profiled flooring belong to the category of budget models, and their independent production does not take too much time and does not require a large consumption of materials. It is important to correctly markup and correctly approach the issue of choosing a building material. For the pillars, a profile welded pipe 80x80 mm is taken, with a wall thickness of 3.0 mm. The supports are dug in below the level of the freezing depth of the soil, set strictly vertically and poured with a standard concrete solution. Installation work on the installation of gates with a gate is carried out after the concrete has gained approximately 50% of the strength level.

To create wings and gates, a profile pipe of different sections is used, which is determined by the force of the wind and the size of the gate span. The best option is a section of 60x40 mm or 40x20 mm. Before carrying out the entire scope of work, including cutting into segments and welding, the metal surface must be prepared by removing all rust with a grinder with a metal brush. Then the primer "Anti-rust" and painting are performed.

How to choose corrugated board (video)

After the paint has dried, you need to assemble the frame in accordance with the scheme and finish the cladding with metal profile sheets. Sheets are fastened with galvanized self-tapping screws, which are screwed in with a distance “through the wave”.

Profiled sheets are not afraid of corrosion and look very attractive, and in the absence of significant damage to the anti-corrosion layer, structures made of such material can last at least half a century. However, to create a durable and most aesthetic gates and gates, you need to choose the right building and finishing material, as well as adhere to all the requirements and basics of construction technology.

During the construction of the fence, the gate and the gate are an integral part of the improvement of a country house. There are heavy loads on the gate. It is through it that every day there is a large patency. If the gate opens less frequently, then the situation with the gate is different. Given this, it is important to think about how to make it reliable and durable. An excellent option for this is a gate made of profiled sheet. This material is quite durable, and if you also install it correctly, you will get rid of problems for a long time. So, in this article, we invite you to figure out with us how to make a gate from corrugated board with your own hands. In addition, we suggest you watch videos, diagrams and photos of corrugated boarding gates.

Which decking to choose

First of all, you need to decide on the choice of profiled sheet. Today they exist of several types, and in particular:

  • N - means carrier. This type of material is considered the most durable and reliable. It is even used for roofing. In such a sheet, the thickest metal is used, there is a high corrugation, which ensures the rigidity of the corrugated board and the presence of an additional groove.
  • HC - the designation implied by the wall-bearing corrugated board. It is universal in its kind as it can be used for roofing, walls and all kinds of structures, including fences, gates.
  • C - exclusively wall. The professional flooring has a small thickness, attractive appearance. It is used exclusively for walls.

In addition to these designations, there are also numbers. For example, you can find sheets such as H-60. If everything is clear with the letter (carrier), then what does the number mean? The first number indicates the height of the wave. There are also such designations - C20-0.80-850-1500. In this case, a wall sheet with a wave height of 20 mm, a metal thickness of 0.80 mm, a sheet width of 850 mm and a length of 1500 mm is indicated. As you can see, this cipher is very easy to explain.

When choosing a corrugated board for the manufacture of a gate, start from aesthetic considerations. For example, will a gate with too high a wave look beautiful, etc. Among other things, it is worth paying attention to the choice of edging, which gives the product a finished look. Today there is a large selection of colors. Therefore, it should not be a problem for you to choose a sheet, edging and even self-tapping caps in one tone and color.

Decide on the size of the gate

Having decided on the type of corrugated board for the gate, you should decide what its dimensions will be. You can make a gate from corrugated board with your own hands, starting from the following standards:

  • The optimal width of the gate is 1000 mm. This width will allow you to bring furniture and other large items without any problems. Of course, if the dimensions are non-standard, then you will have to open the gate. If you increase the width of the gate, then this can lead to rapid wear of the canopies.
  • The optimal height is 2000 mm or less. In this matter, one should build on the height of the entire fence. It is important that visually everything looks beautiful.

Instructions for making a gate

The process of making a gate from corrugated board with your own hands consists of several stages:

  1. Frame manufacturing.
  2. Installation of support poles.
  3. Hinge installation.
  4. Sheathing of the frame with corrugated board.
  5. Lock installation.

These are perhaps the main stages, which we will discuss in more detail.

Wicket frame

For the wicket frame made of corrugated board, a profile pipe with a section of 40 × 40 mm or 40 × 20 mm is usually used. All elements are interconnected by welding. So, at the base of the frame there can be such elements: two segments of longitudinal and several transverse. Also, you should additionally worry about the diagonals, which will give the structure special rigidity.

Advice! To join the pipe at the corners, make a cut with a grinder at 45 °. This is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also gives the structure greater rigidity and strength.

In addition, be sure to keep in mind that the horizontal and vertical elements of the gate frame made of corrugated board must be strictly perpendicular. To make sure everything is accurate, lay out all the workpieces on a flat surface. Then take all measurements, including diagonally. You can also use a building corner, which will allow you to weld a smooth gate.

Advice! Before scalding all joints, perform tacks. Then take final measurements and scald all joints.

Installation of support poles

At the next stage, do-it-yourself installation of support pillars for the gate from corrugated board is carried out. You can make poles from different materials, for example, from a metal pipe or lay out from brick / stone. In the first case, less finance and labor costs will be required. For a gate made of profiled sheet, it is sufficient to use a profile pipe with a section of 80 × 80 mm.

For their installation, two holes are dug in the ground, up to 1 meter deep and 300 × 300 mm in size. If the soil is dense and stable, a depth of up to 700 mm will suffice. The bottom of the pit is covered with rubble and sand, which is rammed.

Advice! First, weld a metal plate or a sole from a sheet of metal to the bottom of the support post. This will give the column stability.

After that, vertically install the pillars. Here it is recommended to use a plumb line or an exact level. After that, the pit is filled with concrete mixture and left for several days. In 6 days, concrete will gain strength up to 30%.

As for brick pillars, the technology is a little more complicated. Under such support pillars, it is necessary to pour a reliable foundation. For example, if the column width is 390 × 390 mm, then the foundation is 500 × 500 mm. Often, a metal pole is laid inside the masonry, which will give the supports sufficient strength. Be sure to remove the metal mortgages on which the canopies for the gate from the corrugated board will be welded.

Advice! It is recommended to close the top of the metal post with a plug. This will prevent water from getting inside the pipe, which provokes the formation of corrosion.

Also, do not forget that before concreting the pipe, it should be treated with an anti-corrosion compound. This will significantly increase the service life of the supports.

Hinge installation

The next step is to weld the hinges. They are fastened with welding or hardware. The optimal place for them is 250 mm from the lower and upper edges of the wicket frame. If the support post is made of metal, then it is better to weld it. In the case of a brick pillar, it is also recommended to weld the canopies to the mortgages. If they are not, then to the brick on.

Sheathing the frame with corrugated board

Now it's time to deal with the sheathing of the manufactured frame with corrugated board. It is impossible to cut corrugated board to size with a grinder, but only with scissors for metal. You can fasten the material to the frame using special rivets or self-tapping screws. The fastener should be located in the lower wave. As for the self-tapping screws, they have a special rubber gasket, which eliminates the possibility of material deformation.

Lock and handle installation

The manufacture of the gate from corrugated board is nearing completion. The only thing missing is a handle with a lock. Installation is carried out using a special metal lining. The pad is fixed to the metal frame. Decking will not withstand such a load.

As for the choice of castle, it can be anything. The main requirement is for outdoor use. On the street, the castle will be subject to sudden changes in temperature, moisture and other atmospheric phenomena. For this reason, it must be sufficiently strong and reliable.

Advice! Do not choose locks of complex designs. Also, do not buy massive locks for security reasons. Their large weight will provoke deformation of the corrugated board.

The ideal option is considered to be a special lock for professional pipes. They are completely protected from the ingress of dust and moisture. Moreover, they are not so difficult to install.

The installation process is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Make a markup at the place where the lock is installed.
  2. Cut holes for the well and handle.
  3. Holes for hardware and cores are also drilled.
  4. Slots for the lock in the pillar support can be made using a grinder.
  5. Be sure to file the edges of all cuts.

Outcome

So, we have examined with you the main features of how to make a gate from corrugated board with your own hands. The process is quite laborious and requires attention. You also need a special tool and skills in working with welding. In any case, if you want to save money, you can handle this job. In addition to all this material, you can visually see photos of finished gates and the processes of their manufacture. Perhaps you can implement something in your summer cottage. Happy creative inspiration.

Gates and gates made of corrugated board belong to the budget category: their manufacture does not take much time and materials. True, if you choose a model of ordinary swing gates without artistic additions. There are also options with forging elements, here the complexity of the work is greater, the costs are much higher. Even an amateur welder can make simple swing gates from corrugated board with their own hands: there are few seams, they are simple.

Sash designs

Even in such a simple design as a gate leaf or a gate, it can be done in different ways, and there are many options. First of all, the location of the jumpers differs:

  • obliquely;
  • horizontally;
  • crosswise.

Each method is tested and works, providing a sufficient degree of rigidity. Here you choose what seems to you more correct or reliable.

There is a difference in the design of the gates themselves - with or without a stationary frame (top bar). With a frame, the gate is more stable, but then there are height restrictions: tall cars - trucks or special equipment - will not be able to drive into the yard. With proper reinforcement of racks (pillars) and normally made wings (with reinforcement in the corners), gates without a frame will also be reliable.

When installing a gate with a frame, the metal consumption is greater - by the length of the jumper, but at the same time, you can not additionally strengthen the pillars: the load on them is less.

To make it more convenient to fasten the profiled sheet, a thin-walled metal profile 1 cm wide is welded along the outer (sometimes inner, as in the figure above) perimeter of the wings. This must be taken into account when determining the dimensions of the blanks for the doors.

To make the structure as rigid as possible, so that it does not “walk” and does not make noise in the wind, reinforcement is made in the corners. And again there are two ways. The first is to weld the corners cut from sheet metal.

The second is to put short corner braces from the same pipe that welded the frame of the wings.

There is a difference during assembly: from the joints, the pipes are connected at an angle of 45 ° or just end-to-end. More professional - at 45 °, easier - end-to-end. Some assembly methods do not provide for the possibility of connecting at an angle at all (if both doors are assembled as one-piece, and only when they are hung on poles, they are sawn into two parts).

Another subtlety, which depends on the amount of snow in winter. As you can see in the photo, the lower bar of the wings is raised to different heights from the ground - somewhere a few centimeters, somewhere 20 cm and higher. It depends on the height of the snow cover in winter: if it snows, and the gate is from the ground itself, you will not open it. To prevent any living creatures from climbing into this gap in the summer, after the snow melts, the bar is screwed onto the screws, and in late autumn it is removed again.

The material for the gate is taken the same as for, fasten it to the same self-tapping screws. Before starting work, the metal must be prepared: remove all rust (with a grinder with a metal brush), prime with Anti-Rust and paint. After drying, you can start working.

Photo report on the manufacture and installation of the gate

This is one of the options for how you can make a gate from corrugated board with your own hands. The technology is not the best, but not the worst: everything has been functioning without problems for the past six years.

Hinges are welded to the installed poles 80-80 mm, the counterparts are welded at the required distance on the vertical parts of the racks from the pipe 40 * 40 mm - on the right and left. We hang the racks on the hinges on the pole, put a layer of the required thickness between them and the poles and fix it with a clamp.

We measure the required height and cut off the excess, from above to the racks, not to the poles, we weld the cross member from the same pipe 40 * 40 mm. The quality of welding at this stage is unimportant. We are still grabbing the details, not caring about the thoroughness of the seam - then we will bring it to the norm. The main thing is that everything is smooth and kept together. Therefore, we grab points in several places.

In the same way, we grab the pipe along the bottom.

We find the middle of the cross beams. Set aside 3 mm from the middle in both directions. We make clear marks. We measure the distance between the upper and lower beams, cut off two segments, weld them according to the marks (there should be a gap of 6 mm between the two vertical pipes).

We measure the distance between the two posts of one half of the gate. They should be the same, but it is better to measure separately. Cut the pipes to the desired length and tack them at the desired height. If you need more crossbars, install them too.

On the marked center with a grinder at the top and bottom, we make through cuts, dividing the gate into two halves. So very simply we got a gate that will open and close without any problems.

The frame of the gate leaves is ready. We remove it, lay it on a flat horizontal surface and weld the seams well. Here, the quality of welding is already important, we monitor the fullness of the bath, we try not to burn holes. We clean the finished seams, primer, paint.

We proceed to the assembly of the support for fastening the profile sheet. To reduce the windage, it was cut into two parts, so that the sheet is not solid, but cut. For this we use a profiled pipe 20 * 20 mm. We cut it into segments of the desired length, so that it can be fixed along the inner perimeter.

We expose them in the same plane with the outer part - the sheet will be screwed from the inside. We fix it on self-tapping screws, having previously drilled holes of the required diameter.

We paint the finished frame - inside with light gray paint, outside - red-brown, to match the color of the corrugated board. We leave to dry.

We proceed to the installation of the profiled sheet on the gate. It is cut a little smaller than the main frame - there should be an indent around the perimeter by 2-3 mm. They are laid on prepared supports and fastened from the inside along the perimeter to self-tapping screws.

Installation of profiled sheet on the gate

You can take special ones, with hats and gaskets, but they put them on ordinary ones.

To save money, we used ordinary self-tapping screws for metal

We can say that the gate is ready.

It remains to install constipation. You can, of course, embed a lock and a handle, but the quality of inexpensive ones is very low, and taking expensive ones is currently an unaffordable luxury. Therefore, bolts were welded from the remains of pipes and fittings. They definitely work under any conditions.

One (upper) is mounted on self-tapping screws with a counterpart on the sashes, the two lower ones are attached to the uprights. Small holes were drilled in the ground in the right places, in which sections of round pipes were concreted, the diameter of which was larger than the diameter of the rod. The gate is made according to the same method, only a lock is embedded in it.

Do-it-yourself ready-made gates from corrugated board

With this manufacturing technology, the gate leaves are guaranteed to open and close. If there were some distortions when installing the pillars, they are taken into account. With a step-by-step presentation, the whole process does not look complicated, and indeed it is. If you weld all parts separately, the geometry must be perfect, and you also have to make sure that the pipe does not lead during welding. See several different technologies for making gates from corrugated board in the next section, which contains video tutorials.

How to make a gate from corrugated board: video tutorials

If the work is new, then even after the photo report, questions may remain. Some of them can clarify video tutorials on the topic. To begin with, repeating the technology described above: we assemble the frame directly on the installed pillars.

The same technology, in the photo sequence.

The second video is about how to properly weld the frame when connecting pipes at an angle of 45 °. The approach is professional.

Those who have not experienced welding gates or doors before may have questions about how to weld hinges. It's not as simple as it seems. Watch the next video tutorial.

The gate from a professional flooring is esthetic and durable. It looks good in a similar fence and in a fence made of a different material.

Characteristics of corrugated board

The professional flooring represents the pro-thinned-out metal sheets with an anticorrosive covering.

The advantages of using corrugated board for the manufacture of gates:

  • The low weight of thin metal sheets facilitates installation - reduces physical effort and reduces the requirements for supporting structures.
  • Profiling (giving a wavy or trapezoidal relief increases the strength of products).
  • On sale, it is easy to find sheets of your preferred color due to the extensive color range.
  • The multi-layered anti-corrosion coating provides maximum protection of the metal sheet from moisture.

Calculation of geometric parameters

Making a gate from corrugated board with your own hands begins with the calculation of the geometric parameters of the product. To simplify the work in the future at this stage, you can draw a sketch or diagram.

Experts recommend choosing an entrance width of about 1 m. A smaller value will make it difficult to bring in large-sized items (furniture, etc.) if necessary, and a large width of the gate made of corrugated board will lead to an increase in mass, which means it will require reinforcement of the supports and, possibly, will cause difficulties when opening .

The height of the gate is traditionally chosen according to the corresponding fence parameter. According to the requirements of SNiP, the maximum allowable height of the outer fence is 220 mm.

Support posts for the entrance structure are no different from the rest of the fence posts. Their height depends on the height of the structure and the required depth. For strength and stability, the pillars are immersed in the ground below the freezing level. The type of soil on the site also affects the depth:

  • for heavy soils, 0.7 m is enough,
  • for heaving soils - 1.0 m.

Particular attention should be paid to the construction of a fence on uneven terrain. Experts recommend that in this case the design be stepped, with differences between sections up to 10% of the total height. At the same time, a gate from a profiled sheet is installed in one of the "steps". Installation at the drop site is undesirable. The soil under the gate is leveled (“terraced”) to obtain a more aesthetic appearance and to exclude the appearance of a large gap through which street dogs and cats can enter the site.

Usually consists of separate sections, the length of which is 3-3.5 m.

Important - there must be a working gap between the gate and the opening, ensuring ease of opening.

Tools and fixtures

When figuring out how to make a gate from corrugated board with your own hands, it is important to know that a minimum of tools is enough to perform all the work, which is available in almost any household. For manufacturing and installation you will need:

  • welding machine (optimally - for 160-200 amperes),
  • grinder with a metal cutter,
  • chalk, pencil or special scriber for marking,
  • screwdriver and screws (metal screws),
  • measuring instruments (tape measure, ruler, square).

This set is sufficient if the main fence and supporting posts are already installed. Otherwise, you will also need:

  • garden drill for digging holes,
  • household concrete mixer or drill mixer for mortar preparation,
  • scrap for crushed stone compaction.

Frame manufacturing

The gate for a fence from a professional flooring is made on a framework. To create the latter, a pro-tube with a rectangle (square) in cross section is selected. The optimal cross-section of the frame pipe is 40x40 mm, the use of rolled products 40x20 mm is also allowed. When using elements rectangular in cross section, they are positioned in such a way that the wide side is placed perpendicular to the plane of the fence.

Frame elements are connected by welding. The frame base is a pair of longitudinal sections 1.7-2.2 m and a pair of transverse sections 0.9-1.0 m. For ease of connection when cutting, the edges of vertical and horizontal elements are cut off at 45 °. This increases the strength and aesthetics of the welded joint. To increase strength, an additional horizontal jumper is often used, which can be located in the middle of the frame, above or below the middle.

When installing the frame, important nuances are taken into account:

  • Horizontal and vertical elements must be strictly perpendicular to each other.
  • Equal distance between all horizontal segments (including jumpers) increases the rigidity and strength of the product.

An alternative to the classic design with jumpers can be a double frame, which is two connected proportionally different-sized rectangles from a professional pipe.

The finished frame is sheathed with a profiled sheet using rivets or screws.

Installing hinges and handles

When deciding how to make a gate from corrugated board, special attention is paid to the selection and installation of hinges. It is possible to use classic hinges or novelties of the construction market - polymer curtains. The optimal place for their attachment to the frame is the points at a distance of 25 cm from the upper and lower edges of the frame. Curtains can be fastened with suitable hardware or by welding. If the gate is supported by metal poles, then the curtains are fixed on them. If the pillars are made of brick or concrete, a profile pipe is attached to them with anchors or dowels, to which the hinges are welded.

The handle for the gate made of corrugated board is installed using a special metal lining. Mounting directly on a thin profiled sheet does not provide the required reliability, therefore, at the place of installation of the handle, an overlay is made - the metal plate is fastened with rivets or screws to the profiled sheet. After that, you can install the handle.

What kind of lock to embed in a corrugated gate

The lock for a gate from a professional flooring, basically, any can be chosen. It is more important that its design is intended for outdoor use (the use of corrosion-resistant alloys, protection against moisture ingress into the lock). Experts recommend not to choose massive locks that are difficult to install and do not justify themselves in operation, and when answering the question “what kind of lock to put on the gate”, special locking narrow-profile devices for professional pipes are called the optimal solution. They are perfectly protected from dust and moisture, easy to install and reliable.

Installing the lock on the gate is carried out in several stages.

  1. Marking is carried out with the determination of the location of the lock, holes for fasteners, cores and handles (if the latter is structurally connected to the locking device).
  2. Holes for hardware and the core are drilled, their edges are processed with a cutter.
  3. Slots for the body are made by a grinder (optimally - two vertical ones and a diagonal one connecting them, which then allow you to bend and cut off two triangles).
  4. The edges of the finished hole for the lock are processed with a file.
  5. The exact place for the counterpart of the locking device is determined, for which the end part of the crossbar is covered with toothpaste, gouache or lipstick, after which, when opening, the crossbar makes a mark on the support column to make a groove.

Before installing the gate, it is obligatory to check the strictly vertical position of the supports in terms of level.

How to make a gate from corrugated board with your own hands? If you have a welding machine, a grinder and a screwdriver at your disposal, this work will not seem too difficult. Instructions on the order of its implementation are at your service.

Dimensions

Let's start by listing the main parameters that you will need in the manufacture of gates and fencing in general:

  • The optimal width of the gate itself is one meter. With smaller dimensions of the opening, you may have problems with carrying, for example, overall furniture.
  • The maximum height is limited only by the fence itself: according to the current SNiP from the side of the street or passage, it should not be higher than 220 centimeters.
  • Fence posts are usually buried about a meter deep into the ground.

Useful: it all depends on the type of soil. In heavy soils, 70 centimeters is quite enough; meter holes are usually dug in weak and heaving soils. In any case, it is desirable to deepen the post below the freezing point.

  • The typical length of a fence section is 2.5 - 3 meters.
  • On a slope it is desirable to do height difference between adjacent sections no more than 10 percent of their height. In addition, it is worth terracing the strip under the fence: the design will look much neater. At the same time, there will be no gaps under it through which neighbors' cats and dogs can visit your yard.
  • The handle and lock are usually mounted at a height of about 90 centimeters. However, a slight shift up or down will not make the use of both inconvenient.
  • Canopies are welded into 25 centimeters from the bottom and top edges of the canvas.
  • It is convenient to make columns from a professional pipe with a section from 60x60 to 80x80 millimeters. The manufacture of gates from corrugated board with a frame from a pipe 40x20 mm is practiced; however, the size 40x40 will make the structure more rigid, and at the same time it will allow you to insert a narrow-profile lock into the frame without unnecessary gestures.

Instruments

Do-it-yourself gate for a corrugated board fence will require a certain minimum of tools in the manufacture of:

  • Welding machine. An inverter welder is optimal (current 160-200 amperes).
  • Bulgarian with a cutting wheel for metal.
  • Scriber. To obtain accurate dimensions and a frame of ideal shape, the cutting lines must be very thin. In addition, the pencil lines are hard to see on the surface of the steel pipe and are easily rubbed off.
  • Screwdriver. We will fasten the profiled sheet to the professional pipe with metal screws.
  • If the poles have not yet been installed, a garden drill with a diameter of 20-30 centimeters is most convenient for digging holes. It is simply impossible to dig such a narrow hole with a shovel, and a larger size means a much larger amount of rubble, concrete and, as a result, a higher final price of the project.
  • For tamping rubble when installing poles, scrap will not interfere. It is more convenient to knead concrete in a concrete mixer; but with small volumes, it will be perfectly replaced by a drill or a hammer drill with a mixer attachment. A bucket of mortar is mixed with this simple device in a couple of minutes.
  • Square, tape measure and ruler.

Getting Started

It is worth mentioning: we will consider the simplest design of a gate for without any architectural frills. Gates made of corrugated board with forging elements look great, but are much more difficult to manufacture and require certain skills.

pillars

If they are not installed, the procedure is exactly the same as for the fence:

  • Pulling a cord along the fence line, we mark the location of the pits.
  • We select them with the help of a garden drill. If it is not there, you can get by with an ice pick and a steel scoop with sharp edges.
  • We put the pillars strictly on a plumb line and fill the base with rubble. After making sure once again that the pillar is vertical, we ram the gravel with a crowbar.
  • We fill the pits with a liquid mortar with a ratio of cement and sand of 1: 3.

frame

We mark the horizontal and vertical pipes and cut them at an angle of 45 degrees, drawing lines along the square.

Attention: if you use a professional pipe 20x40, its wide side should be oriented perpendicular to the plane of the fence. Otherwise, our gate made of corrugated board will turn out to be too flimsy, and it will be much more difficult to install the lock.

Then, laying out the pipes on a flat surface, we grab the frame in all corners. We measure the diagonals: they must be strictly the same. If necessary, straighten the frame and weld the corners completely.

We weld the horizontal jumper by cutting it in place. Note that it can be placed not strictly in the center, but slightly lower or higher: it will be more convenient if the corrugated gate handle screwed to the crossbar is at a height of about 90 cm from the ground.

Sheds are welded last strictly along the future vertical axis.

Frame installation

It is possible only when the concrete in the pits has partially gained strength - at least after 3 days.

The wicket frame is set in height on a solid base of the required height; then the canopies are attached to the post. Make sure that the gate opens and closes without any effort, indicating that the awnings are skewed, and finally weld the awnings to the post.

Lock installation

In principle, any lock designed for external doors can be put on the gate - as long as its insides are not afraid of corrosion. Too massive structures are useless: nevertheless, we produce non-garage sectional doors with a wicket door.

The most convenient to install (and perfectly protected from water and dust getting into the mechanism) are special narrow-profile locks for professional pipes.

In the photo - an electromechanical narrow-profile lock.

Installation is easy:

  • A slot is marked for the lock body and holes for the core, fixing screws and handles.
  • Round holes are drilled and finished with a cutter.
  • Under the lock body, the grinder makes two vertical slots, then one diagonal. The triangles of steel are bent outward and cut off. Then the edges are finished with a file.
  • The location of the reciprocal part of the lock is easy to mark by smearing the bolt of the lock with toothpaste or lipstick. Close and open the lock - and an imprint of the place where the groove should be will appear on the post.
  • The overlays are installed after the gate is sheathed with a profiled sheet.

Sheathing with profiled sheet

And no surprises here:

  • Cut the sheet to length.
  • We fasten the edges with 35 mm self-tapping screws, orienting the edges of the sheet along the frame.
  • We stretch cords along the pipes of the frame or draw lines with a pencil.
  • We draw the sheet through the wave.

It remains to install the lining of the lock - and you can use it.

Work completed. You can mark 😉

Conclusion

As you can see, making a gate from corrugated board with your own hands is quite realistic and feasible. The video in this article will show you the main stages of work. Successes in construction!
