Moscow Maslenitsa Festival

At the venues of the Moscow Maslenitsa festival, which will be held in the capital from February 17 to 26, the city dwellers will find a large number of pancakes with sweet, salty and hearty fillings.

In total, the center will have more than 30 points selling pancakes. In addition, culinary master classes will be held for guests, round dances and traditional Slavic Maslenitsa fun will be organized. The venues will be decorated with numerous figures of straw Maslenitsa, an eight-meter ice Maslenitsa and carousels in the form of Dymkovo toys.

Participants will have the opportunity not only to taste pancakes and learn their recipe, but also to take part in classic carnival fun. A “pancake” shooting range, “pancake” frisbee and curling are organized on Revolution Square.

There will also be culinary master classes. Everyone will learn how to cook buckwheat, chocolate, Guryev pancakes, as well as celery pancakes. For those with a sweet tooth - pancakes with peanut butter and chocolate ice cream, baked apple and boiled condensed milk, with marshmallows and caramel. Cooks will reveal the secrets of pancake recipes from different countries: Chinese choux pastry pancakes with shrimp and tomato dressing, French pancakes with oranges and raspberries, Japanese pancakes with zucchini and sesame seeds.

On Novy Arbat, where four festival venues will be located, Maslenitsa will be made more modern. Here you can see two-meter puppets. In them, guests will recognize the avant-garde artists Malevich, Stepanova, Lentulov and Kandinsky. With each of the dolls, visitors will be able to take pictures.

The Novy Arbat and Maslenitsa figures will decorate. The process of decorating them will turn into a separate performance, as the artists will work right on the site, in front of the visitors.

Active entertainment awaits visitors on Tverskoy Boulevard. Near the monument to Sergei Yesenin, you can ride on a wooden slide about seven meters long. It is stylized as a traditional Russian sleigh with a painting like a Dymkovo toy.

Guests of the festival will be able to play "kolobok-bol" - Shrovetide analogue of broomball (hockey with a broom).

Instead of clubs, visitors will be given brooms, and a small ball, stylized as the main character of the fairy tale "Gingerbread Man", will become a projectile. Muscovites will also be able to take part in another unusual game - to roll large sham cheese heads at speed.

Also here you can play a three-meter xylophone.

The history and traditions of woodcarving will be presented in Klimentovsky lane. Guests will also see carved window frames and wooden architraves from different cities of Russia. At creative workshops, everyone can learn how to draw and paint trim, decorate gingerbread with icing and even grind flour. It will be interesting for both adults and children. A mini-exhibition of traditional clay toys will be held in Novopushkinsky Square.

At some sites, the theme of seeing off winter and waiting for spring will be reflected in the color scheme of the chalet. For example, the Kingdom of Winter with an ice palace and blue pavilions will be located on Revolution Square, and the Kingdom of Spring with red pavilions will be located on Manezhnaya Square. On the last day of the festival, a giant ice figure of Maslenitsa will be “burned” here. The two seasons will meet at the transition from Revolution Square to Manezhnaya Square: actors in traditional Maslenitsa costumes, together with guests, will lure each other to the side of winter or spring, ride on carousels.
