First look at GTA Vice City Stories. Review of the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Timeline described by Rockstar

Oooh, Vice City... Vincent, have you ever been to this city? My friend, you have lost a lot. Forget about your favorite Liberty City, that spawn of fog and rain: the sun always shines in Vice City, even when it's raining and the sky is overcast! This is a beautiful city where beautiful men and women stroll leisurely along the wide embankments and narrow streets, admiring the sunsets and sunrises. This is a city where majestic skyscrapers and chic mansions coexist with modest ruins from poor areas. Although - why the poor? There are no homeless people in this city. The mafia is here...

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

Two acrobat brothers.

Similarly Liberty City Stories, VCS is designed to reveal some secrets inspired by the plot of the original (in this case - GTA: Vice City), and therefore we have to fast forward to 1984, which is two years before the fateful deal from intro video to Vice City. This time we are offered to try on an army cap and a khaki T-shirt - main character, Victor Vance, is a member of the Vice City Garrison at the start of the game. However, his boss, Sergeant Martinez, clearly did not join the army in order to serve his homeland. It is not at all a fact that the United States for him is something more than a country of opportunity. Great opportunities and no responsibilities.

Vic plows on an unscrupulous warrior, but another illegal operation does not go too smoothly, and he is kicked out of the army in disgrace. Sergeant Martinez escapes with a slight fright, and Vic has to look for work, since he has to send most of the funds to his seriously ill brother. Then his second brother, Lance "T" Vance, jumps out of a snuffbox and offers to do "business". Business, in his understanding, is the theft of drug trucks that used to belong to one, and now will serve others. Having snatched the dope from Martinez, the brothers learn that it did not belong to the sergeant at all - a small fry - but to much more serious guys from one of the Latin American groups, with whom Vice City is filled to the limit.

There is little pleasant, however, there are advantages in such a turn of events, because if you want to live well, know how to spin quickly. Having untwisted in Vice City and making more friends, you can reach a whole new level. In the meantime, you have to work for some racketeers, develop your own criminal empire and transport vehicles by air. In general, life is in full swing.

Nothing personal, just business.

Events take place in the well-known city of Vice City, and this time you will have to start on another island. Just think: in a purely secondary and, in fact, the final series of the "first three-dimensional GTA" line - GTA: VCS, there are more than twice as many tasks as in the original Vice City! Toward the end, the joy of this fact will decrease somewhat: the designers clearly struggled with the sixth dozen missions, and therefore “repetitions” often occur in them. However, sometimes there are really unique tasks.

Among the latter, I do not include the cover from a helicopter of a truck with goods that Ricardo Diaz's competitors want to take possession of (did someone really forget this crazy lover of drugs, chic houses and beautiful girls?) - perhaps this is one of the most difficult missions, if not in the entire history of GTA, then in the VCS - for sure. No matter how good you are at controlling your character with analog sticks, hitting a moving target while the helicopter is also *moving* is not easy. Much more interesting, and most importantly - more spectacular, other tasks. For example, a similar cover from the air, but this time - yachts, and Vic is located not behind the machine gun, but in the cockpit. The mission to destroy the towers at the police stations of Vice City is very good: here you have a helicopter flight, and the maximum wanted level, and a counter that is inexorably decreasing with every second ... In general, there is where to turn around.

But the main news of the day is, of course, the Empire. At a certain stage of the game, the Vances come up with the idea that instead of hunchbacking on their uncles, you can take away their business and earn a lot of money yourself. Business in Vice City is based like this: you take a Kalashnikov assault rifle, shoot a competitor’s car parked near a crime point you like (a brothel, a drug laboratory, etc.), deal with outraged guards, and ... everything is your business. Pay some money, choose one of six types of activity and the degree of "size" of the enterprise - and it's done. Every day, at the same time, the pager politely reminds: "today you earned $ 5,000" - well, isn't it a miracle?

genre crisis.

Not really. Indeed, in addition to the Lances, there are many other groups in the city that dream of subjugating the brothers' cause, which is gaining momentum. "Your empire is at stake!" - the game is broadcasting, which means that you need to grab a wheelbarrow and rush towards the flashing icon, where your racketeers or night butterflies are butchered to a nut by hordes of enemies. Several waves of bandits, and if you are still alive, the point was protected. If not, it's easier to load the game and make sure that the raid might not have happened. In addition, the Empire needs to be developed, and for some reason this must be done personally by Vik. Take prostitution for example. The income from it at an early stage of development with the lowest (of the possible) authority of Victor exceeds the profit from any other kind of activity. To increase income, you need to become "your" person. In the case of night butterflies, the process looks very primitive and nervous: they grabbed one girl, delivered it to the client, picked up the second one - they took it to another customer, and just then the first one got free and:

A) everything is fine, I received the money, we go further;
B) everything is bad, the client did not pay and ran away - it is necessary to catch up and beat the bastard;
C) everything is very bad, the client took out a gun and began to shoot at the priestess of love;
D) everything is really bad, the client pulled the girl and dragged her into a dark corner to get the same thing, but for free.

All this action gets boring somewhere in the second ten killed clients. But this is rather an exception to the rule - VCS is much more interesting and beautiful than some of its predecessors. So, for example, the graphics are noticeably prettier, the number of small (and sometimes very significant) details in the frame has noticeably increased, and the draw distance is one of the best in the history of the "we left GTA3" sub-series. Being another clone of the glorious grand theft Auto 3, VCS boasts a truly epoch-making (within the series, of course) innovations: for the first time in the history of GTA, a real character appears in the game, voiced by a real star - Phil Collins. For some reason, bandits constantly get the latter, so Vik will have to protect the star from attacks by ill-wishers several times. Another important event in the history of GTA, which should be of interest to fans of the series, was the appearance of a child in the frame. Yes, he flashes only in the video before the next task, and there are no children directly in the game, but still this is a very remarkable moment. And, perhaps, it's worth noting that Rockstar really seems to believe that white people can't swim - in the VCS, as in San Andreas, once again there was an opportunity to swim to the desired point on the map. After leaving GTA4 it became clear that whites *still* know how to swim, but that's a completely different story ...

Are we happy to be deceived?

Rockstar Leeds worked on the game, which once again promised to make an exclusive on the PSP and once again, after all the cream on the portable console was removed, the game was ported to PS2 - the "exclusivity" did not last even six months. It's a pity, of course, that this game never made it to PC, because VCS, in my opinion, really surpasses LCS in terms of story and innovation, and it's really fun to play. Colorful characters, great music and beautiful (for Sony Playstation 2, if you suddenly forget about "some" for a second) God of War) graphics - all this in Vice City in 1984 in bulk. And along with Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories becomes one of the main reasons to buy a PS2. Unless, of course, you are a true fan of the GTA series.

It has become a good tradition for the GTA series to improve the quality of games released on a particular platform. GTA: Vice City Stories was no exception. The difference in quality compared to GTA: Liberty City Stories, released a year ago, is quite significant. First of all, this, of course, concerns more attractive and high-quality graphics. The number of polygons on the screen has doubled, and this increase has benefited the game - buildings, cars, vegetation and all other objects look almost the same as GTA: Vice City looked at one time on the PS2 console.

And she looked pretty good! The draw distance has also been more than doubled. Now on a clear sunny day you can see the buildings on the other side of the city. This level of rendering impressed gamers back in the days of the LCS, and now it seems that your eyes have been opened and you see the game world in all its details. The size of the game world is also increased and what is most remarkable is all this splendor with good data processing speed! After all, the game engine has been significantly optimized. In addition, the game has new lighting effects, which guarantees excellent graphics and, as a result, complete immersion in the game. But the most valuable thing in the game is certainly not the quality of drawing buildings and objects, the most remarkable thing in the GTA series is FREEDOM, you can get into any vehicle, be it a car, motorcycle, helicopter, plane, or boat. You have almost unlimited freedom of action, you can destroy everything in your path, kill and go wild as you like, or you can just ride around the city, obeying the street flow, the citizens rushing about their business and just enjoy the life of a living city, which was created specifically for your enjoyment. The great tradition of the GTA series is preserved here, rest easy.

The game takes place in 1984 in the city of Vice City (the prototype is a Californian resort town in the USA). The protagonist is Vic Vance, a 28-year-old American sailor who served at the Guantanamo base (Cuba). Everything would be fine and Vic, with his abilities, would definitely achieve a high military rank and calmly retire, recalling dashing army adventures ... But something went wrong and fate throws this brave and principled person into the cycle of the criminal world. We do not know the reasons for this change in Vic's life, but they will become known as the game progresses. Vice City in 1984 is, as it were, a state within a state, its own laws operate on its territory, dashing and luxurious life is in full swing here. Crime seized power in the city and a flood of drugs from Colombia poured into the city, thereby bringing untold wealth to someone, and death to someone ... Vance is drawn into the struggle between criminal gangs, where all disputes are resolved with the help of weapons and no one can escape from this luxurious sinking ship. However, Vance has only one chance to survive - to become the head of the underworld and thereby try to save loved ones and restore order in the city with the help of force.

The original idea was that the missions should be tiny and not take much time to complete, this was motivated by the fact that the PSP is a pocket console and people will play while in public transport or in between work or school, but as it turned out, LCS players were unhappy with such short missions. This time, the passage of story missions will take longer, get ready for a long journey to the "vicious city". The player himself will choose the missions to complete, as in all previous games in the series, there were no surprises here, which is not so bad. Missions promise to be very diverse, they will involve all types of vehicles, including the latest jet ski, helicopters, jets and, of course, a huge number of other vehicles, which abound in the game. The targeting system has been made more convenient and you do not have to frantically press buttons trying to catch the enemy in sight, aiming is automatic and more intelligent than in LCS. You only need to aim at the enemy, and after he is caught, start shooting, performing a wild dance of death. No one will leave offended - all opponents will be shot! But do not think that you only have to shoot, as if the distraught Rimbaud, who got into the metropolis, is not at all, there will be plenty of stunt missions in the game. For example, the mission "Say Cheese", in which the local film company will ask you to perform some stunts, and all the action will be filmed on camera from a helicopter flying above you! First, you will pass through checkpoints on a jet ski, bouncing spectacularly on jumps and flying over obstacles, then you will jump on a powerful motorcycle and continue this crazy race already on land. And all this fun for the sake of candy advertising! With a sense of humor from the developers of the game, everything is in order. In another mission, "Steal the Deal", Vance must quietly follow the courier, surveillance must be carried out very carefully so that the guy does not pass ahead of time that he is being watched. But the job is entrusted to a professional, and the courier is doomed, first Vance carefully follows him in a sports car, and then gets on a jet ski, and as soon as the object reaches the shelter - a floating house in the ocean, the fun begins. Vence, no longer hiding, blows up all the opponents and, having stolen what he needs, sails away from the burning house in style on a boat. Performing tasks on a jet ski, it is very easy to get carried away and, in the heat of the chase, run into any obstacle and fall into the water. But don't be afraid, in this case Vic will not drown, but will be able to get to the pier and safely get out on land. Missions in the air will take place a little differently. In one of them, called "Taking the Fall", Vance needs to save one of the members of the biker gang, together with his partner, our hero pursues the biker's offenders in a helicopter. Moreover, one pilots a helicopter, making dizzying somersaults, and the other is firing from automatic weapons! Most likely, this mission can be completed using the multiplayer features together with your friend!

So far, there is no information about the multiplayer capabilities in the game, but the developers are hinting that it has become much more interesting and more perfect than its predecessor from the LCS. The game does not have the ability to play online via the Internet, but only on a local scale - on several PSPs located close to each other. This is probably due to the fact that online multiplayer cannot be implemented in hardware on the PSP for this game, or the developers simply implement this feature in the next game in the GTA series for PSP. It is reported that the developers do not exclude the possibility of creating GTA: San Andreas Stories, although they do not say anything definite. We just have to wait for the release of the game and see what the tireless creators of the game have come up with to give us many hours of playing together with friends in the GTA world, because this world is so diverse and huge that visiting it alone is somehow even dishonest.

Just like in the original Vice City in new game it provides for the purchase of buildings and doing business, only in VCS the conduct of informal commerce is implemented much more interesting and diverse. To establish your shadow commerce empire, you need to attack and destroy the car of gangsters who control this or that type of criminal income. This car is always located near the building, which is the office of the criminals. A fight will start and if you manage to destroy the building and kill all the competitors, then you can buy this place and open your own office, which will bring regular income. You cannot open the same type of criminal activity here that was in this place earlier, you will have to choose which business to establish. The game features six various kinds activities: pimping, borrowing money at interest, racketeering, drug distribution, smuggling and buying stolen goods. You can open a small business (costs $2000), medium (costs $3900) and large (costs $5800). Once you have chosen the type of business and its scale, construction will begin, which lasts two game days. A billboard will appear near the construction site, showing that a building is being erected for a particular type of business. Once everything is ready, you can enter the building where you will meet the working members of your gang. Each building has its own unique interior, but only the bulletin board is unchanged, approaching which you can manage the business, including its economic component. After that, you will start getting money, but if you want really big money, you can complete the missions that can be obtained inside the building. Each type of business has its own tasks that are completed on unique vehicles, for example, there is a pimp mission in which you will be tasked with taking girls to meet with clients around the city. Competing bandits can attack your business, and in this case, an alarming message will come to your pager and you, along with your accomplices, will defend your business by force of arms.

Thus, in just a month, a very worthy game for the PSP console will appear on the shelves of stores, which will undoubtedly become a hit. After all, all the best that is in the GTA series in the new GTA: Vice City Stories has been preserved and even significantly improved, so we recommend that you do not miss this wonderful and interesting game.

Note: This is a review of Vice City Stories, but it is assigned to Vice City as there is no page for this game on the site.

Revisiting the 80s.

And welcome back to Vice City! To a sunny city, where slender girls in bikinis walk the streets, where snow-white sand on the beach calls to the ocean, where slender rows of palm trees stand along the highway against the backdrop of a picturesque sky, and magical songs by Phill Collins, Quarterflash, Jackie Moore and Scandal. If you missed him, then Vice City Stories will give you another ticket to this paradise. Take-take. It's all inclusive. New plot, new missions, new hero and even new locations and areas are also available. Have taken? I knew it. They don't call it Vice City for nothing. the best city for fun.

Vice City Stories is a prequel to the original Vice City, set two years earlier. We play as Victor Vance, the older brother of Lance Vance, known from the original game as the partner of Tommy Vercetti. It all starts at a military base, where our hero is sent to serve. There he meets his commanding officer, who draws him into various dirty deals, such as drug trafficking and prostitution. Victor needs money to pay his younger brother's medical bills and provide for his mother, so he has nowhere to go and he has to get to know the criminal world of the incessant resort town better.

The core gameplay of Vice City Stories is classic GTA. The game, as it should be, begins with simple story missions like going somewhere and picking up something, finding and killing an enemy from a gang of competitors, bringing some character from point A to point B, destroying or stealing cars marked on the map. After the introductory part, there will be original, interesting and challenging for the player story missions, where you will need to complete a chain of actions to successfully complete or have time to do something for a while.

As in Vice City, there are story missions with good staging and humor, which are based on some events that took place in the game's plot.

The game has a couple of gameplay innovations that were not in the original. The protagonist learned how to swim and grab opponents in close combat, but a completely new aspect in this series was the ability to manage purchased real estate. The shops, brothels, and other business establishments you purchase will act as conservation homes where you can upgrade your business to secure a regular income, label the operations of the business, and go on missions related to the operations of that type of business. They are quite repetitive, but at first they are very interesting to perform.

There are six types of illegal cases at your disposal, such as drugs, prostitution, usury, robbery, smuggling and racketeering. Basically, it's like taking over territories in San Andreas, only here you buy, attack and appropriate establishments in order to build your criminal empire. From time to time, you will need to defend your possessions from raids by gangs of competitors or take away their business.

The prosperity of the criminal business increases your authority in these parts of the city and brings good money. They will come in handy not only for buying cool weapons, but also for bribes, another new aspect in the game that allows you to regain all your lost inventory after death or arrest.

Eventually, it all gets repetitive and annoying, just like in San Andreas, but these open-world activities give you useful in-game bonuses, like the ability to hire a few armed subordinates, and serve in a good way diversify your stay in Vice City by deviating from the main missions.

Otherwise, it's still the same classic GTA within the series from the third part to San Andreas. Similar mission structure, game mechanics, storytelling, weapons, vehicles, and so on and so forth.

A few shortcomings...

The controls are generally acceptable, the same as it was before in the series, but the target acquisition system in foot firefights sometimes becomes extremely naughty. Sometimes the scope locks onto unintended targets. For example, I had such a case when in a fight with bandits, my character suddenly turned 180 degrees, aiming at a random passerby. And it would be nice if the next time you pressed the button, this did not happen again, but no. The game stubbornly poked me at this bystander, which caused me to run in circles, swinging my fists in the air, giving up homing.

I should also mention the bugs and glitches in the game. There are not many of them, but I met a few unpleasant ones. For example, once during the game I was thrown into the main menu of the Playstation 3, and at the most inopportune moment for this. It was only once, no big deal, but before that, a black screen appeared that lasted about a minute and this worried me a little.

As for the plot, Vice City Stories is weaker than the original game. Vic Vance is a controversial character, if not to say that his actions are generally difficult to understand. He appears before us as a real supporter of morality. He is against drugs, but he sells them. He is against weapons, but he sells them. He does not like it when women are beaten, but works for a guy who beats his wife with a small child. He is against violence... well, you get the idea. That is, it is clear that, according to the plot, he is forced to do this by problems with money in the family, but he almost always surprisingly quickly steps over his seemingly “iron” principles and goes to do the dirty work. It looks something like this: - "No, I will not kill people!" - "Go kill people", - "Okay, I persuaded you."

In addition, Vic Vance is perhaps not only the most controversial anti-hero of the series, but also the most uncharismatic, even in those moments where he could be. I hate to admit it, but he's a pretty boring character.

But his brother Lance Vance, on the contrary, is a very charming fool, because of which the main character constantly gets into big, but exciting troubles. It will be interesting to see what he was like before the events of Vice City, as well as meeting other familiar characters.

Nostalgia.

The world map has changed a bit. Vice City has got new locations and houses that you can visit. In fact, these changes are surprising. You kind of drive around the city that you know, but at the same time you constantly stumble upon something new and unfamiliar to you.

The only disappointing thing is the graphics. Vice City Stories looks nice, sunsets and sunrises still evoke a romantic mood, however, the game is not as colorful as the original. There is a lot of yellow in the picture, which I personally do not really like. Ladders, low draw distance, muddy textures and a lot of blur effect. All these things that the game got thanks to the PSP do not prevent me from enjoying the return to my beloved city from my youth, but I still regret a little that I can not see that sharp and colorful picture from the original here.

And of course, Vice City wouldn't be Vice City if it wasn't for... "helicopter missions"! Actually, not literally with a helicopter, but with its counterpart in this game, but take my word for it, when you get to this point, such nostalgia will wash over you.
I'm like this
- “Oh, the “helicopter mission”! Long time no see! Long time no see. I'm so glad to see you ... it's making my teeth hurt!”

The PSP version of GTA Vice City Stories is very different from the original computer project. This game is not in vain considered an excellent offshoot from the main storyline. Fans of the series should definitely check out the project.

The GTA series has always been distinguished by the fact that it showed players interesting characters with twisted life stories. There was no exception here, because users are immersed in places even with a dramatic narrative.

This game is rich in more than one plot, and to learn more about it, you should read the article. It describes the gameplay, differences from the main line, highlights and much more.

General information

Console games at the beginning of the zero years were rapidly gaining popularity. That is why the release in 2006 by the company Rockstar Games GTA Vice City Stories for the PSP handheld was no surprise. This is another project from a line of offshoots that did not go to the main platforms.

The Stories series was designed to cater to two audiences. On the one hand, people unfamiliar with GTA could easily get acquainted with history and have fun in the open world. Fans will recognize a huge number of characters from the main project, they will see some intersections in the stories. Plus, the native atmosphere attracts with great force.

Plot

Users who download PSO GTA Vice City Stories PSP should especially enjoy the storyline in this interesting offshoot of the main series. At the center of the whole story is not a hero with a criminal past, which has already become a tradition. The name of the main character Vic Vance will be familiar to fans for several reasons.

First, he appeared in the original project and played there important role. For those who played GTA Vice City, his face will be familiar, even though Vic only appeared in one episode. Also, all fans of the game know his brother Lance. First, the main character appears before users in the role of a decent military leader.

The main character of the game

He loves his job, and his career is rapidly gaining momentum. Nothing foreshadowed the misfortune that happened on his life path. The authorities transfer Vika to Vice City, where he was supposed to continue serving for the good of his homeland. At one point, his colleagues set him up, and the hero loses his title, and with it the hope for a brighter future.

Vic, with his fighting skills as an excellent soldier, remained on the street. Soon, due to anger and world injustice, he takes the path of crime, where his abilities were quickly used. The plot is interesting from the first minutes, captivates with sharp turns and intrigues until the very end.

Game process

In GTA Vice City Stories PSP, there are a lot of opportunities for entertainment. A huge completely open world opens up before users, and the character is controlled from a third person. In fact, the developers completely transferred their original concept from projects on major platforms to this part.

This is right, because there is no point in breaking the mechanics that show themselves perfectly and work 100%. The main rule has also been preserved - maximum interactivity in terms of environment. The user can get into any type of transport and ride in open areas. This branch maintains the tradition of great car simulation.

When you go out into the street, it will immediately become clear how to earn a living. You can kill civilians, or even arrange corporate lawlessness. There is access to additional missions of a taxi driver, firefighter, ambulance. The player is free to act according to his reasoning. The gameplay in GTA is captivating because you spend dozens of hours inside the project, and you can never get to the main storyline.

In GTA Vice City Stories, like Liberty City Stories, this rule also works great. Everyone likes to feel complete freedom in the digital world, plus in 2006 there were few projects that could offer such a thing.

Differences from the original

All users should remember that GTA Vice City Stories on the PSP is a separate full-fledged project, although doubts arise at first sight. When starting the game, the user will see the familiar landscapes of a large sunny metropolis.

A huge number of different vehicles, the design of the building, people on the streets - all these elements give too much secondary. It seems that the developers just decided to make money. They took a handheld console, created a story and transferred the completely identical world of Vice City. As you know, the first impression can be deceiving and here it is fully justified.

GTA Vice City Stories is a separate project from Rockstar

The creators of the project, when talking about the plot, specified that the events take place two years before the main storyline of the computer version of GTA Vice City. That is why the surroundings of the city could not change much during this time. If you take a look at the whole map with the eyes of a professional, you can notice the differences. Some buildings are still under construction, but they are already functioning in the game from the main line.

You can also see some interior elements that you will not find in GTA Vice City on a computer. From this we can conclude that the developers have kept the canons in their project. They emphasized the original atmosphere and slightly changed the world. The main thing is that complete freedom of action remained, but seasoned it with a great story.

A few cons

Many users may think that GTA Vice City Stories is an original project without its drawbacks. This is partly true, but some negative points can be found under an inquisitive eye. Firstly, story line intriguing, but the scope of events greatly loses computer projects main line.

The characters are interesting, but not that memorable. Together with them, you want to live the story, but against the background of other games in the series, it is faded. Secondly, GTA Vice City Stories rus developers did not provide for the official version. That is why, in addition to installing the project itself, users will have to surf the net to find a good crack.

For the sake of crack, you will have to search the network for a high-quality assembly of the game

It is recommended to download only from trusted resources, because there is an option to pick up a bunch of malicious content. Thirdly, the plot is not too long and ends at the point where projects from the main line are just starting to accelerate. The last not the most obvious minus is management. As in Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories, it is slightly specific.

After the computer, it will take a long time to get used to, and in dynamic moments with chases and gunfights, this factor can become fatal. Cons are present, but they do not overshadow the positive emotions from the project.

Conclusion

In Grand Theft Auto Vice Sity Stories, a huge layer of development work is visible. Even a simple transfer to another platform was difficult to accomplish in 2006. Here, users are presented with a complete project, albeit with such a familiar world. For some, secondary will be a minus, others are happy to ride familiar streets again.

The plot is unique and reveals more deeply than many familiar characters. The story is not so long, but at times it keeps the intrigue at the proper level. Developers should be praised for their work on the visual component.

In this part new plot games and new features

They managed to squeeze out all its small power from the small PSP console. Compared to the computer version of Vice City, it looks more attractive here. A new plot, tightened graphics with physics and a familiar concept gameplay was enough for the offshoot to become very popular.

On this handheld console, it is listed best games that were issued to her over time. This indicates that every fan Grand series Theft Auto is recommended to check out Vice City Stories. You definitely won't have to regret it.
