How to get from Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris

The easiest way to get to the center of Paris is the RER train, the platforms of which are located at terminals 2 and 3. RER trains travel through the city center, stopping at the Gare du Nord stations ( North station), “Chatelet Les Halles”, “Saint-Michel Notre-Dame”, “Denfert-Rochereau” (at each of these stations you can change to the metro). Trains leave at intervals of 12 minutes from 5.00 to 23.40. Travel time to the center is about half an hour; ticket price 9.25 euros.

The parking space near the airport is limited by the size of the car. You cannot leave a car longer than 5.5m, higher than 1.9m and wider than 2.2m in the parking lot. Getting from Charles de Gaulle airport to Orly is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. The fastest and cheapest way to get there is by train and the Orlyval special metro. Airport history

In the early 60s of the twentieth century. for the two Parisian airfields, Orly and Le Bourget, the prospect of a transport collapse began to emerge more and more clearly. According to calculations, every 5 years there was a doubling of passenger traffic and the existing air terminals could not cope with such a number of people. In order to prevent the impending crisis in the summer of 1964, a decision was made to build a new Paris Nord airfield.

For him, a place was determined in the Roissy-en-Frans region, far from settlements, where there was enough free land. All that was required was to buy it out from the owners of several farms. Nevertheless, the decision to build the airport was received ambiguously by the public and persistent debate about its feasibility was conducted until 1972. Finally, the problem was solved after the payment of appropriate compensation to the parties affected by the construction of the airport.

The opening of the new main air gates of Paris and all of France took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of the country P. Messmer in 1974.

Over the forty-year history, the infrastructure of Charles de Gaulle Airport has undergone many changes, but continues to improve today in the spirit of the times. Only one thing remains unchanged - the successful combination of economic efficiency with maximum comfort for passengers.

Charles de Gaulle Roissy Airport is not only a "window to Paris" for most Russians, but also the largest international hub for Air France and Delta: with a transfer in Paris, many long-haul (especially transcontinental) destinations are much more economically accessible than direct flights from our country, with a very successful transfer from Aeroflot and Russia flights. If you fly from Moscow or St. Petersburg in the early morning, you will be able to make almost all other flights to America, Asia and Africa.

However, the airport has its own specifics, which it is better to know about in advance.

Charles de Gaulle has 3 terminals; the oldest, the first, serves a "hodgepodge" of different airlines focused on O&D traffic to Paris from different countries the world, as a rule, in 1-2 directions, as well as charter and seasonal flights. Terminal 3 is home to small low-cost airlines and charters; as for flights to / from Russia, as well as subsequent connections - here the main terminal is the largest terminal 2, on which we will dwell in more detail.

In fact, Terminal 2 is not one, but 7 terminals at once, designated by the letters 2A-2G, which are interconnected, but not for all. That is, you can move freely between the check-in areas in different terminals, they are located in two chains and the transition between the neighboring ones takes about 5 minutes (except for terminal 2G, which can only be reached by bus). But with transfers, you can get from one part to another exclusively by shuttle bus, which travels in a circle around all parts of the terminal. Here it is important not to confuse not only the bus route (and for some combinations it will be necessary to change from one to the other), but also the stop at which to get off: if everything is more or less clear with the "Russian" part (2C), then in 2E, where Delta and Air France are located, it is also important to know your boarding gate number, because they are located in different satellites, designated by the letters K, L and M. Inside, of course, in the future you can go from one part to another, but the way will be distant, but you can ride on an automatic train that connects these three satellites. It is similar to the "horizontal elevators" in the St. Petersburg metro: the tracks are separated from the platform by sliding doors that open when the train arrives.

It is very important: when transferring to CDG, it often happens that boarding passes for the next segment are not given to you at the airport of departure, but, in fact, at the CDG itself at the transfer counter. And then the availability of boarding passes may not be checked at the security control (and when transferring, it will certainly be right after arrival, and the queues there are often very long!), As a result of which you may find yourself at the gate without a boarding pass and will not fly away (I had to see such situations with my own eyes). At the same time, you may not have enough time to return and fix everything, because, we repeat, the crossings are long, and there are a lot of people everywhere: the second airport in terms of passenger traffic in Europe, after all! At the same time, there are no Priority lines for you at inspection and passport control (they are only in 2E), stand with everyone.

All this is exacerbated by the predominance of people with African roots among the staff, whose English language it is sometimes difficult to understand (and some even speak only French!). So, it is better to organize an independent docking through the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport with a large margin of time (due to its size, taxiing from the runway to the parking area after landing can easily take twenty minutes). Also, remember that visa-free transit via CDG without a Schengen visa is only possible within 24 hours, and you cannot, of course, go outside the "clean zone".

Terminal 2E, satellite M.

Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are connected by another line of automatic trains (the same as between the parts of Terminal 2). They also make a stop at the hotels and long-term parking lots located on the territory of the airport (there are also pick-up / drop-off points for rental cars). If you do not rent a car, then the easiest and fastest way to get to Paris is by city train RER (line B), which has stations in terminals 2 and 3. The interval between trains is 7-8 minutes, a one-way ticket costs 10 euros, to the center go about 40 minutes. At the same time, a ticket to the airport is incompatible with ordinary tickets for Paris city transport, that is, when changing from the metro, etc. at one of the stations in the center you will need to buy another ticket.

RER tickets can be bought from machines on the platform, but these machines only accept Euro coins and not banknotes. There are coin-to-note changers, but very often they do not work, because coins are running out. Fortunately, you can pay for the ticket with a bank card, but Russian cards are only accepted with a chip. Alternatively, you can buy a ticket at the box office, but the box office is not open 24/7 and there are often long lines.

For the same 11 euros from any terminal, you can go to the center (to Opera Garnier) by the Roissybus express bus (interval 15-20 minutes), but this is much longer: due to traffic jams, it can take an hour and a half. If 10 euros is too expensive for you, then buses 350 (from the East Station) and 351 (from the Nation) will do as an alternative - here you will need to spend three coupons of 1.70 euros each (5.10 in total).

Tickets are sold in vending machines, as well as in newsagents, but the easiest way (but slightly more expensive) is to buy them directly from the driver for 6 euros. There are also night buses N140 and N143, connecting East Station with Terminal 3.

There are also special shuttle buses to Disneyland, buses for easyJet passengers (minibuses) and Air France (including the second largest airport in Paris - Orly). Taxis cost approximately € 60 to the city center. There is also a TGV station in Terminal 2, where you can go to the main major cities in France, as well as Brussels.

As for food, everything is organized according to the principle "Expensive and tasteless"; even in business lounges there is really nothing to eat except nuts and cheese. The exception is the Air France lounges in Terminal 2E, which offer a wide range of restaurant-grade food, as well as an excellent selection of drinks, including alcoholic ones.

Of course, the 18-year-old Macallan is not served there, but, nevertheless, you will not stay hungry and sober. For those for whom business lounges are not available, there is an opportunity to eat and drink relatively inexpensively at Starbucks (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D), otherwise the airport is characterized by overpriced fast food; at the same time, there are more catering establishments in the public area than in the clean one.

As for shopping, here (shops are concentrated in a clean zone), there are also mainly luxury brands at overpriced prices; that is, you can go to buy something from Hermes or Louis Vuitton only if you are flying in transit (otherwise everything is cheaper in Paris itself) and at the same time you need this or that thing right away (otherwise it is also cheaper at the destination, except in cases where if this item is Moscow). It is interesting that rather expensive Duty Free shops (from local products there are cheese, wine and cider) are actually not tax-free, but Travel Value, that is, from purchases made in many of them, you can and should go and issue a refund Tax Free. By the way, about Tax Free: in France now Tax Free is issued in the form of electronic PABLO receipts, and to return them you do not need to put a stamp at the customs, but you just need to scan the barcode from them at the terminal. In Terminal 2C, from which you will most likely fly to Russia, the terminals are located in the arrivals area at the 12th exit. It is important not to forget to then put the checks in the envelope and put them in the box near the terminal.

CDG has both free (with registration and SMS authorization) and paid Wi-Fi at a price of 9.90 euros per day (there is also an option with payment for 20 and 60 minutes in case you will be at the airport for a short time ). Power outlets in public areas are tricky, but they can be found, in particular, in work areas with tables (in the clean area of terminals 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G), near Sony Playstation play areas and in rooms for listening to music, where you can come from with your player. Once close to any Terminal 2 (A, C, D, E, F or G), it is more convenient to get to the Charles de Gaulle 2-TGV train station using the already mentioned Navettes Airport Shuttle buses No. 1 or No. 2.

The first one bypasses all ports in a circle with an interval of 7-8 minutes during the daytime and 15 minutes at night. It is more convenient to get to port 2G, located at a considerable distance, by bus # 2, leaving 2F with an interval of 5 minutes and a working shift of 5:30 - 3:00.
