Cozy and comfortable resorts on the coast of Catalonia

An affordable vacation is possible on the coasts of the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada, which are located in Catalonia. There are beautiful golden beaches, comfortable hotels and very close to Barcelona - a real museum of Gothic architecture under open sky. Tourists should be aware that the beaches here are mostly municipal, so you have to pay for sunbeds. Locals mostly sunbathe right on the sand, spreading a towel or mat.

On the coast, you can choose one of the small towns for recreation. Each of them is good in its own way, you just need to determine what kind of rest you need. If you are relaxing with your family, then you can choose the Costa Dorada. The hotels are mostly three stars, with comfortable rooms that have everything you need, including air conditioning.

The city of Salou can be chosen for families with children. Nearby is the amusement park Aventura. The city has many municipal beaches marked with a "blue flag". In the evening, numerous tourists stroll along the beautiful wide embankment with palm trees. There are also beautiful well-groomed parks for walking. A room in a two-star hotel costs from 65 to 80 euros, in a three-star hotel from 80 to 90 euros.

Usually breakfast is included in the price. Lunch or dinner - buffet, can be ordered as needed, it will turn out cheaper than buying a ticket with half board. If you are not satisfied with the hotel, you can rent a room or apartment. If you are traveling with a group, it will be cheaper than a hotel room.

Where to relax and see local attractions in 2019.

Cambrils, an old fishing town, is now the most beautiful resort for families with small children. The beaches have a gentle entrance to the sea, they are well equipped with cabins, toilets, playgrounds. Cambrils attracts with its maritime tradition: every day at 16.30 local fishermen bring fresh catch to restaurants and the fish market.

Gourmets from other cities come especially to enjoy the local cuisine. Especially popular
but assorted seafood and fish - "marescade", you should also try shellfish and paella. Prices are quite affordable.

La Pineda is another resort that you can go to with small children. This is a young resort, with clean beaches and a convenient entrance to the sea, it is considered the most quiet and peaceful place to relax. Everything on the beach is created for children to relax - children's animators, cafes that have a special children's menu. Here is the longest promenade in Catalonia - two and a half kilometers.

In La Pineda, there is an opportunity to visit Aquapolis, an amusement park with water performances with dolphins and fur seals. In July and August, the city hosts various events with the participation of local groups. You can see horse races, processions of giants in colorful costumes and much more.

Tarragona - ancient city with historical monuments under the protection of UNESCO. Here you can find inexpensive apartments, hostels and hotels, popular campsites: Caledonia, Las Palmeras and Trillas Platja Tamarit - you will get a wonderful holiday by the sea in a well-groomed park with all amenities and entertainment.

Beautiful beaches with golden sand stretch for 15 km. History lovers will find many attractions here, including the Roman amphitheater. Not far from the city is ancient aqueduct from which water was previously delivered to the city from the Francoli River.

In the period from 16 to 25 September, you can observe the feast of the patroness of the city of Santa Tecla. The whole city is decorated with flowers, festivals with national performances are held. On the street you can meet colorfully dressed characters. Nightlife in

Where to stay other than hotels

When planning a holiday in Spain, you can consider the following types of accommodation:

Hostal or family hotel, it can be located in a separate mansion or occupy part or all of the floor. All amenities, meals can be provided by the hosts or you can cook yourself. The cost per person is 25 euros.

The guesthouse is a private hotel, lower level than the Hostal, usually an apartment in a residential building with a shared bathroom. The cost of such housing is from 20 euros. In any case, if you are going to relax by the sea in Spain, you should think over the route in advance, if you pre-book tickets and a hotel room, you can save a lot.

To determine the most budget resorts in Spain, we conducted a small study in which we examined the cost of living in hotels in the most popular resorts on the coast of the Balearic Sea.

The study showed that the average cost of living in a 3-star hotel is 79 euros, and a night in a 4-star hotel will cost 103 euros. But it should be borne in mind that the cost of living in 4 * hotels had too much influence on the results of the study. It should be borne in mind that in small resort towns there are few 4 * category hotels, so the average figures somewhat distort the picture.

If you want to have a cheap holiday in Spain, then you should pay attention to the following seaside resorts:

  • Lloret de Mar
  • Calella
  • Pineda de Mar
  • Tossa de Mar
  • Majorca

In Barcelona in the summer it is difficult to find budget hotels near the sea, and the popular Salou and Blanes are too in demand, which can dictate higher prices.

Cheap family holidays in Mallorca

To date, Mallorca offers the lowest prices for accommodation in hotels. This phenomenon is easily explained by the fact that this is an island that is not in great demand among tourists, as its excursion program is limited to its territory. The whole island lives on tourism, so there is always big offer housing and prices significantly below market.

The only drawback for families with children is that almost immediately, literally 4 steps from the shore, the depth begins.

There are not very many hotels in Calella, but the demand for them is quite high due to the excellent infrastructure of the city and its proximity to Barcelona. Nevertheless, in terms of price parameters, Calella is still included in the list of inexpensive resorts.

Pineda de Mar - a paradise for pensioners

It is currently one of the cheapest resorts near Barcelona. Pineda de Mar is next to Calella, but it's quieter and less hectic. It is perfect for families with children, as the entrance to the sea is very gentle. There are no noisy discos here, and restaurants close at 11 pm. It is easy to get to Barcelona by train or bus that runs along the coast.

European pensioners and family members prefer to relax here, which affects the price, which is slightly higher here than in Calella. It affects the fact that there are not many hotels in the city corresponding to 3 * and 4 * hotels.

Tossa del Mar is a beautiful and quiet resort

Tossa del Mar is located 90 kilometers north of Barcelona. There are no nightclubs here, but everyone notes clean beaches and quality service in hotels.

This resort town of the Costa Brava is located at a fairly large distance from Barcelona and has no direct connection with the "tourist magnet" of the region. The hotels here are small but cozy. The cost of living is quite budgetary, but since the hotel fund is not very large, the price tag is slightly higher than in other budget resorts of the Costa Brava.

Rest on the mainland

Mediterranean coast of Spain

The entire Mediterranean coast of Spain - from the French border to Portugal - is divided into segments - Costa Brava, Costa del Maresme, Costa del Garraf, Costa Dorada, Costa del Azahar, Costa de Valencia, Costa Blanca , Costa Calida, Costa del Almeria, Costa Tropical, Costa del Sol.

All these tourist destinations are very popular among European tourists, and each has its own characteristics. What is different from one another, what to do in one or another coastal region of Spain and another useful information I hope you can find it in this article.

Costa Brava (Costa Brava, or "Wild Coast")

This stunningly picturesque stretch of coastline is located just north of Barcelona, all the way to the French border. It stretches from Cape Creus in the north to the town of Malgrat de Mar in the south. A very beautiful rocky coast is densely decorated with coniferous groves, and wonderful and very cozy beaches await you in the bays. There are traditionally a lot of French people here, and you can understand them: nature is the same as in their homeland, but the prices for everything are 1.5 times lower than French ones.

Costa Brava is the coolest of all the resorts in Spain (the north after all!) They say that the sea here more or less warms up by June. Hmm, we rested here at the end of August, and the water, to put it mildly, invigorated (the sea is +22, at most +23 degrees - far from the ultimate dream!)

The most popular resorts: Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar, Blanes and Platja d'Aro.

Lloret de Mar is traditionally considered a youth resort. There are a huge number of nightclubs, and the city is famous primarily for them. The beaches here are noisy and there is literally nowhere for an apple to fall. But fun, if you know a lot about such fun. Looking at the samples of practically bucketful cocktails displayed in the windows of the bars, you understand that the resort is “tailored” primarily for the needs of people who, for the first time in their lives, have escaped from under their parental wing. That is why, probably, the main housing stock of the resort is multi-storey and featureless concrete boxes-apartments. But everything is relative, and on the right side of the resort (if you stand with your back to the sea), we managed to find a couple of very nice 4-star hotels ...

Fans of a more refined and relaxing holiday should stay at. A charming medieval city, located in several beautiful bays, cannot leave anyone indifferent! Read my report on a wonderful vacation spent in Tossa.

The resorts of Blanes and Playa de Aro are best suited for families with children.

On the island, you can combine a beach holiday with a visit to entertainment complexes and national parks, and sightseeing of the Teide volcano. The sea water in Tenerife is colder than in the resorts of mainland Spain, but in July, August and September it is quite comfortable to swim in it.

Costa Dorada

The Costa Dorada region allows you to combine a beach holiday with a visit to ancient architectural monuments. A good option for those who choose where to go to Spain for the first time.

The main seaside resorts in 2019 are Salou and Sitges. If the availability of entertainment is not critical for you and you want a more relaxing holiday on the beach, you can go to small towns like Tarragona or La Pineda.

Costa Brava

The Costa Brava is considered the "coldest" region for a beach holiday in Spain, but from June to October it is just as good to swim and sunbathe as in other places. In the high season (July, August) the weather is not as hot as in other Spanish resorts (+26…+28°C).

Most of the Costa Brava resorts are located near Barcelona, so you can go on excursions or spend a few days in the capital of Catalonia. Tourists travel mainly to Lloret de Mar, Blanes, Tossa de Mar.

Majorca

The island is rich in nature: magnificent beaches, mountain ranges and a large protected area. Tourists go to Mallorca for a beach holiday, diving, rock climbing, golf.

There are many beaches on the island: there are small ones located in bays, there are sandy and even grassy ones.

Most of the interesting places in Mallorca can be visited on your own: cultured pearl farms, monasteries, ancient cities and museums. If you rent a car, it will take an hour and a half to drive across the entire island.

The island has high humidity, so the summer heat is not easily tolerated (especially in July), and it often rains in autumn. It is better to go on vacation in June or in September and early October: the heat is not so strong, there are fewer tourists, the water in the sea is warm.

It is worth going to Ibiza for youth recreation: life on the island is seething day and night. Numerous cafes, bars, clubs are open around the clock during the high season. Two of the ten most fashionable clubs in the world - Privilege and Space - are located in Ibiza. It is better to buy tickets for them in advance on the Internet to avoid a long queue.

Pros of Ibiza: beach holidays, developed infrastructure, an abundance of good hotels and a lot of entertainment (including windsurfing and diving). On the other hand, the island is considered one of the most expensive in Europe.

The beaches in Ibiza are well-maintained, along the coastline there are many cafes and restaurants.

If you rent a car, you can visit the side of the island where there are no discos and bars. It is calm and very beautiful here: evergreen pines and the azure sea.

Barcelona

One of the most popular resorts in Spain is Barcelona. Holidays in Barcelona allow you to see all the sights and lie on the beach. The most popular tourist areas are the Old Town, Montjuic, Gracia and Eixample.

In addition, the easiest way to get to Barcelona is from Russia - there are direct flights from Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as the opportunity to fly inexpensively by low-cost airlines from the Baltic countries.

You can visit most of the interesting places in the city on your own on the Bus Turistic tourist bus. If desired, from Barcelona you can easily get to the popular beach resorts of Spain on the sea (for example, to the Costa Brava).
