Transfer of the gas riser in the apartment

Transfer or replacement of the gas riser in the apartment

There are often cases when, for various reasons, in an apartment or residential building, there is a need to transfer or replace a gas riser. This may be due to the general wear of the pipe due to a long service life or a major overhaul. For some, this is caused by the process of general redevelopment of the kitchen space or the riser simply spoils the appearance of the room with its rough execution. In any case, if the final decision is made and you cannot do without performing installation work on the gas riser, you should know that this undertaking is quite serious and should be approached with great responsibility.

The main requirement is that such installation work should, in accordance with all existing standards, be carried out by a qualified specialist who has the appropriate permit and in no case should amateur activity be allowed here. It is necessary to contact the gas service with a written statement about the need to carry out work on the riser and wait for the arrival of the master at the place of residence. Directly on site, an experienced specialist will assess the scope of work, agree with you on possible installation options and make an estimate. After that, a day will be appointed for the repair work.

The matter remains small, wait for the appointed date and, upon completion of the installation work, accept the finished result. However, you should not completely trust the actions of the master and rely only on his qualifications, everyone is subject to the human factor in various situations, and in order to be sure of the proper quality, it is worth monitoring the entire process, and for this it is worth understanding the sequence and correctness of all actions. Since work on gas communications involves a certain risk to others, appropriate precautions are taken before starting any manipulations.

All unauthorized persons are removed from the zone of possible danger, and a warning sign is posted at the entrance to the premises. Further, the gas supply is shut off along the riser and all its possible remnants are blown out. Only after that it is possible to cut the entire riser pipe with a grinder or only a separate fragment of it, depending on the situation. If it is necessary to bring the pipe into the wall or ceiling, it is mandatory to install an appropriate case from a pipe of a larger diameter, in which a gap to the riser pipe must be maintained within 5-10 mm. This gap is subsequently filled with an elastic material. The entire riser pipe must be painted with water-repellent paint, including the part that is located inside the case. After completion of welding work, before starting gas into the system, check the tightness of all seams and blow out the air.

At the final stage, an act of completed work is drawn up, and a corresponding mark is entered in the gas passport of the residential premises.
